JAVA: Surabaya...Graffitti & Submarines. Long final breakfast...breathing in the majestic beauty at the Ijen Resort...one last time...aahh...now have to return to Surabaya...and infernal traffic. I think Fandi our Guide was happy to go...pretty boring for him to hang around for several days...sometimes only seeing us for meals...Hady our driver happy to see us again...and then there was the musi... Another great blog Dave :D
I thought I saw some hairy faced guy waving at me while I was on Bali!!! So it was you!!! I can't swim but if I had known it was you I would have made my best attempt to doggy paddle across and share a Bintang or 12 with you. Java certainly is the place to be! Bali is a dump and has little to offer, maybe with the exception of its graffiti. But now it seems that even the graffiti on Java gives Bali a serious run for its money! Enough said ;)

THANKS NICK
I could have sent the boy with the inner tubes to get you...if I had known...but I reckon you doing an entrance...coming into a Javan beach...on a windsurfer...can picture it now...yeh that's the way to meet the Cockle...maybe someday!

Been looking forward to this blog since you mentioned the graffiti in Surabaya while at TB's party. Great stuff... looked at our Surabaya graffiti pics and you're right, the artwork is amazing. Not sure when I'll get round to writing our Indonesia blogs but if they don't make the cut (it's hard to chose which pics to include when you take heaps) I'll make sure to mail 'em to you! :)

THANKS MICHAELNFAYE
Great graffitti...bit of an effort to get the shots...lucky really...to find the owner of the van...more than lucky! Look forward to seeing further blogs from you guys...and hope you are all well.

I see you are a member of the 1421 club...
I assume that's Gavin Menzies organization. Have you also read his 1434 and Lost Empire of Atlantis? he was also a submariner, so does your visit to the submarine museum have anything to do with him? Nice pictures of the grafitti...worth the effort to get it.

THANKS BOB
I have restricted myself to the 1421 at this stage. I am aware of 1434, but have not looked into it...have you?

All that trouble!
Hey, thanks for all that trouble, Dave. Some graffiti there --- and someone looks fixated on wonder woman! :)) Ouse beach scenes look very familiar (like home) even if I have not been to Surabaya.

THANKS LILLIRAM
Missed you in KL...you too busy luxuriating in Spain...thanks for your comments

Indonesian Graffiti - not as we know it Dave ;)
LOL this entry made me laugh so much....what is it with Indo graffiti? I have a sneaking suspicion my surname may mean something derogatory in javanese or balinese because we kept seeing it scrawled allover walls in ahm..bali...mum suggested it may mean what wonderwoman is!!

THANKS CINDY
So you know who Wonder Woman is..!!!
15th May 2012

Yes, I've read all of Menzies books.
They certainly challenge the Eurocentic view of history.

BOB
I have no doubt the Chinese accessed Northern Australia before Europeans as 1421 claimed...whether they got to the Americas...Gavin Menzies arguments are compelling though questionable.

GRAFFITI, 8 LANES OF TRAFFIC & 8 TIMES AROUND THE BLOCK @#%*!!!!
I am thinking of writing a blog of my version of David & his graffiti pic *steam spurting from my ears*! If it wasn't for Fandi being concerned for David's welfare, the driver & I would have been luxuriating over a cup of civet coffee & a steaming plate of Nasi Goreng whilst David circled the city 8 times looking for us :-0

WONDER WOMAN IS A...WHAT?

:)
I'm still trying to figure out what this means, without success. I have come to the conclusion that liberal use of English language swear words is what is important. Check this out, also taken in Indonesia. That really do spell their website like that. http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/6395924

WONDER WOMAN IS A...WHAT?

HI MELL
Obscure but hard hitting...made the images on the wall come to life...had to be worthwhile considering my efforts required to get the shot!
