Fumaroles, Buddhist temples, volcanoes and an abandoned temple The last thing I wrote about in the previous blog entry was my visit to Krakatoa Island in Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra. After that I went back to Java again and slowly made my way towards Bali. Kawah Domas On the western end of Java is a city named Bandung. North of Bandung there is a volcanic area called Kawah Domas... Read Full Entry

Taman Sari is best described as a ruin today.

Taman Sari is quite special because among the crumbling structures and in the courtyards people build houses and huts and make the place their home.

Man carrying... probably not grass

In a small village near Pura Penataran Sasih temple we met this man. It looks like it is grass he is carrying but it probably is something else. Could it be rice?

Sometimes we put something a bit funny at the end as a reward to the readers who make it through without giving up. On the toilet’s water tank it says "The Best Niagara"

Borobudur is a very special temple. Inside each one of those cupolas there is a Buddha statue. /Ake

Java
Java is an incredible island to travel the length and breadth Ake. So much to do and see. I am sure you were pleased you spent some time there and saw as much as you could.

Indonesia is a favourite
I had a really good time in Indonesia. I enjoyed my trip there very much and I look forward to go back there sometime. I still have several very interesting plaes left on Java I want to visit. Prambanan is one that is a typical tourist destination. A much less typical tourist destination in Java I want to visit is the Sidoarjo mud flow, the largest mud volcano in the world. /Ake

Borobudur

Borobudur
The end of the Buddhist trail from India to Angkor Wat to Borobudur. One of the great achievements of restoration to this marvel surrounded by the necklace of volcanoes. Great pic for your memories Ake.

Borobudur

Imagine if we could be there today
Imagine what it would be to visit all of the greatest historical sites today when hardly anyone is travelling. Forbidden City, Great Wall of China, Angkor, Borobudur, Petra, Pyramids of Egypt, Venice, Taj Mahal, Machu Picchu... Many of these places we could have more or less for ourselves... It would have been interesting. Thanks for commenting our blog. /Ake

Ubud is a great place for awesome local handicrafts!

I spent a lot of time in shops
I spent quite some time shopping for handicraft when I was in Ubud. I bought more than I would normally be allowed to bring on the plane. I am happy that I didn't have to pay for overweight. /Ake

I spent 2 winter getaways on Lombok with friends who have a place there. I visited Bali, Java, & Sulawesi. Loved it!!

I would have loved that too
I can understand why you loved spending winters in Indonesia. I wouldn't mind doing that myself. /Ake

Indonesia
I just caught up on your latest blogs Ake - very enjoyable reading :) I've been a various places on a couple of islands, but as you mentioned, I would love to return too. It would be fabulous to explore each island in full, but we would need the luxury of time for that!

Time is the problem here as well
It is the same thing for us, we want to travel more but we don't have the time. But I guess that is not entirely a bad thing. That way I guess at least I enjoy my travels more than I would if I had all the time in the world. /Ake

Fascinating Country
A fascinating country is Indonesia. It sounds like you enjoyed it very much. I do hope you are able to return again soon to be able to see more. I myself only scratched the surface of such a large and diverse country.

Same here
I totally agree. I mean, I didn't even see the Prambanan Temples. Also I read an article once about there in Indonesia is a lake with jellyfish. Possibly it is Kakaban Lake. I remember seeing spectacular photos from it and would love to see it IRL. /Ake
