Jakarta
Jakarta Tuk Tuk From Bangkok we flew to Java Indonesia... I was sure with a name like Java I could put away the Nescafe for a week or two... I could have yes... but you wouldn't have either!
Anyhow, we flew into Java via Jakarta and took a train into the "smaller" city of Bogor. Bogor is known world wide for its botanical gardens established by Sir Simon Raffles and remains today a hub of botanical research and science. When we were there we sadly found it in some disrepair, and as tourists are permitted to "drive through", it did not turn out to be the majestic setting we had read about.
Indonesia is home to the 2nd or 3rd largest population in SE Asia and the island of Java itself carries 50% of the Indonesian population at an astounding 940 people per square kilometer... and we felt every inch of it! We stayed in a little guest house, but decided to make a prompt exit after a ceiling tile (and I mean ceramic tile) fell to the tile floor outside our room with many others over head! then Gunnars knee went through the bed frame... out we were... don't have to
Bogor
Waitinf for our train. we thought we missed it! tell us twice!
And so began the bus ride of legends! 15 hrs overnight, no leg room as that was reserved for our bags, no head room due to the 5 people crammed into the baggage storage area behind us, and no humor left due to the rusty seat springs up our butts!!
