Day 3
Today was to be our last day at Kebun Indah in Ubud. For the last night we had to change rooms to the Padi room. The room we had been staying in (Kodok 2) was previously booked. Bummer! At $25 USD a night it was a steal. Padi room was all they had left for us when we called for reservations so we took it. It is was too big for us, sleeps a large family of 6. Large covered open air living room and large bedrooms and two huge bath. Bath rooms here are all open, no ceilings. The cost was $65 USD. Breakfast is always included in the price here.
For the next 7 night we have reservations in Nusa Dua at the The Grande Bali.
For breakfast today Peter ordered the traditional black rice pudding. This menu item had to be ordered a day ahead because of the preparation time. I had the vegetable omelet again along with the fresh fruit and muesli. The vegetable omlet is like none other. The ingredients in the omlet sound gross but the flavor was amazing. Carrots, thinly sliced cabbage with some type of spice sautéed and folded in
eggs. Peters black rice pudding was good, kinda sweet like oatmeal. It had a thin layer of milk on top with some slices of banana.
Today we had a spa day booked @ 10:00. We arrived on time and was quickly taken away into separate rooms for our 1 ¾ of heaven. They had us shower first then we were treated to an hour massage. A scrub followed. They scrubbed me down with something I couldn’t identify. I asked her and she called it “Lulu”. It was yellow gold in color and smelled like a fragrant root or herb. It smelled good but like nothing I could distinguish. As soon as the scrubbing began it had a cooling sensation on my skin. I was then covered for about 10 minutes with a thin scarf then wiped down. The same thing was repeated on the other side. Followed by a yogurt wipe down. When she was done I had a quick shower then off to my floral bath. It was amazing! The tub was deep, filled to the brim with fragrant water. An abundance of flowers covered the surface of water. While I was soaking Ginger tea was served along with melon
kebobs.Could this get any better?
Back off to the Sacred Monkey Forest. Down the windy narrow road toward the park we go. This is the first completely rain free day we have had. The shop owners are all open now and the activity and energy is flowing. My heart start starts to pound, a spontaneous reaction of a true bargain shopper. One thing this girl knows is I can’t leave Bali without buying a butt load of stuff.
At the park monkeys are every where. We read that there are 3 different groups that live in the park and approximately 300 monkeys. They are called Balinese Macaques also known as long tail Macaques. 35 adult males, 95 adult females and 170 young. The three groups live in different areas of the park at different times of the day. We have read that the monkeys can be unpredictable. They need to be treated with respect we are guests in their home. While there we saw a few people get bit. They didn’t break skin but I saw the marks left on this one German woman behind us. YIKES!
There are 3 holy temples in the Sacred Monkey Forest. These temples were
build during the 1400 century the Pejeng Dynasty. We spent hours there again. I could have been there all day watching their antics, but Peter was due for a feeding and we had to go.
We walked back to our new favorite restaurant and had another great meal. I had the Ginger Chicken, Peter had the Beef Satay and we shared the noodle dish again. We were lucky to have the same server. She was so beautiful and kind.
We ended up running back to Kubun Indah to meet our driver. We had checked out earlier and made arrangements for a ride at 4:00 to Nusa Dua. We bargained with him and he took us for the price of 180,000 rh, about $19 USD. On the way he took us past the village Celuk where they are known for their hand crafted silver goods. Beautiful pieces of jewelry are everywhere! The trip was about 1 hour 15 minutes long. He was friendly and answered all our questions happily.
