SANUR BEACHSANUR BEACHSANUR BEACH

The Curry Mango where we stayed was about three blocks from the beach. However, they had their own restaurant on the beach which we used, A LOT!
Landed at Denpassar airport in Bali on February 25th and planning to stay a month or so. Took a taxi down to Sanur and stayed at the Mango Beach The Mango is low key, with a small swimming pool in back. It is very Hindu, as is Bali generally as distinct from the rest of Indonesia which is mostly Muslim.

Attended a Barong and Kris Dance which depicts the conflict between good, represented by Barong the good spirit, and evil represented by Rangda. The play shows costumed actors as monkey, tiger, witch and gods with themes of immortality, redemption and, as noted the unending battle between good and evil.

Sanur is on the beach and along the beach is the house and compound of a Belgian painter which has been turned into a museum, the La Mayeur Museum. La Mayeur settled in Sanur in 1932 and painted the local scene, especially a young women who eventually became his wife. Being at their home, which is the central building at the museum, and reading the inscriptions by the paintings, which have been placed in their former living room, bedroom, etc. points to the passing nature of our lives. We walked

These magnificent vistas opened up throughout our trip to eastern Bali.
the rooms where they had dinner, laughed and enjoyed life with friends.

After Sanur headed up to Ubud in the south central part of Bali and from there travelled east to Pejeng, Candidasa huging the coast line up to Singaraja on the north coast. Also, took a side trip to beautiful Tenot Lot on the south west coast. A particularly stunning part of the island are the volcanoes. The trip around the island found us in the north at dusk and so drove past the beautiful Gunung Agung on the way back.

Some of the pictures of these areas are in the following panel on Bali

Not sure what this dance was about exactly; most have to do with emotional themes e.g. the spirit of a child, conflict between good and evil; one was about a bumblebee and a butterfly in a garden. All were stunning.

Tenah Lot means "ancient lands" and is one of the most stunning Hindu temples we've come across.
