Wel i can safely say i have never had a new years eve quite like this one! We are staying at a hotel in Kuta, with hot showers and air con and its own pool - the best place so far. On New Years Eve, the locals were all selling great quantities of cardboard horns and plastic trumpets, which everyone was blowing non stop throughout the day/evening and in some cases the following day! Come the strike of midnight, nearly every bar was deserted as everyone descended on the beach to see in the new year and watch the fireworks. The problem was that most of them were locals - who had all travelled to the beach on their motorbikes, and so within a few minutes the streets were seas of bikes all trying to get ... read more

We have been resting in Bali for almost one month now. A few days after we got here, Ted returned to the U.S. (some of you got to see him!) to retrieve our oldest son, Tyler. We have been staying at a fabulous villa and loving every minute of our time here. Jill has had 2 facials, 3 cream baths and 6 massages. Ted has had 8 massages and he was gone for two weeks -- go figure! Truly we have been pampered and taken care of by our wonderful staff and will miss this place very much when we leave in a couple of days to begin our tour in China. To tell you a little about our time in Bali (besides big dinners and massages), we have visited several beautiful Hindu temples; we've been ... read more

When planning and outlining our trip around the world we ran into the difficulty of getting from Thailand to Perth. Very few carriers go into Perth from Thailand, most of them fly into Sydney or Melbourne. The best option, that was also one of the few affordable options, was to fly via Indonesia to Western Australia. With no additional charge on our ticket, we were able to enjoy a nice 5 day layover in Bali. Five days we learned was not nearly enough time to see much of what Bali had to offer. However, we had a chance to take a surf lesson, observe a traditional Balinese dance and then get roped into trying Bali-style dancing ourselves in front of the rest of the audience and even enjoy an Indonesian reistafel! We began our stay in ... read more

hi all, Dave here it's our last day in indonesia and we're flying to Melbourne tonight and back to the western world, i can say now that i haven't really missed it that much infact gonna be sad to leave asia really, for one it's so cheap over here, the foods all pretty good (although am a little tired of rice) the people are really friendly and there are loads of great beaches. out of all of asia i think i'm gonna miss indonesia the most esspecially the bit we just spent the last week in. Gili Trawangan is a small island just off of the coast of Lombok, and it is spectacularly beautiful, crystal clear waters, golden sandy beaches, palm trees everywhere and hardly anyone is on the island, we walked around the island in ... read more

Well im in Bali and i haven't done a damn thing. I sleep as late as i want, wake to go get food, sit on the beach, and watch a handful of movies. I watched 4 movies the other day back to back to back. Any Given Sunday, Oliver Stone, Cameron Diaz, James Woods, Dennis Quaid, Jamie Foxx, etc. etc. What a great film. Thank you for Smoking with Aaron Eckhart. Really really good. Aaron Eckhart was nominated for a Golden Globe for it this week. Also 16 Blocks with Bruce Willis and Mos Def. And one of my holiday favorites, Elf with Will Ferrell. What a great movie. All in one day/night. As nerdy as you all, besides some(Ashton, Huck, Ben, Matt Sauers, and Shimmie), might think it is, it is a dream for me. ... read more

Just got to Bali tonight. Flew in from Singapore. Found a cheap place for $4 dollars a night. No pics yet, but many to come. My passport is starting to look like im actually doing something. All of you out there here my words with your brain, and your head, and your mind: TRAVEL. Spend 2 months of your life going places. You will learn more in those 2 months than any in your life. You will make contacts for the future that you never would have if you stayed home. It's very easy. Detach yourself from your busy routine, save a couple thousand and just go. It will be the best thing you have ever done in your life, besides maybe that macoroni picture your mom put on the fridge when you were 5. Just ... read more

Its too hot here to do anything else other than laze at the pool all day (or really in the pool cos its so hot to lye down on the sun bed)! We havent really done much in Bali since we have been here other than just relax in the sun! Since my last post we had a delicous sea food dinner on a lovely beach at sunset for Ulrika's birthday. We enjoyed a relaxing 3 hour treatment at a spa resort for 20e each! We also took a temple tour of Bali with a nice english couple and we were all scared at how they drive here in Bali. We only saw one accident the whole day and Im surprised we didnt see more! Anyways the royal temple wasnt as grand as its name but ... read more
