Edit Blog Post

ok,so i haven't blogged in ages! sorry! but i do have a very very good excuse....got all geared up to write one last week and then felt really ill started sweating went out to get some air and nearly collapsed........on Dehra Dun high street......needless to say no blog that day.....😊 I think i was just dehydrated and that combined with severe delhi belly (except rishkesh belly i think) made me stay in bed recuperating at torals for two days....but all good now. Nats had the same think but less severe and that cleared up.

On monday we arrived at the school and settled in unpacking etc...it is going to take so long to impart to you guys what it is like. i'll try but no promises. The school itself is very small and compact, the classrooms are small and scattered around, everything is very very dusty and there are beautiful hot pink flowers in a swathe of green that overhang onto the small playground casting shade for the children and there is a slide, see-saw and roundabout for them also but they mainly play cricket.........ALL the time. they're mad for it! Around the school is jungleish overgrownlush vegetation and then the hills and mussorie lie to the north. The village is compact and very random bumpy dusty potholed roads winding through it. There is a tiny dented bus proudly painted john martyn which drops off a few children and takes the teachers into Dehra Dun for their english lessons. Me and Nats hop on this bus at three to go into town...about 14 people cram into this tiny bus and bump down the road haltingly into town. it's brillant! On thursday we went over a huge pothole. everyone hit the ceiling and the driver casually opened the door and looked back at the tyre...whilst still driving forward. 😊

Our room is basic but habitable...very dusty. squat toliet, bucket shower. we have to heat the water in the kitchen in a bucket using an element and then drag it in. yesterday we had a spring clean and i brushed and mopped the floor and washed up and got so so so so much dust and crap out of the room - its still dirty though....nats cleaned the kitchen and surfaces etc...which soooooo needed doing!

cooking attempts have been interesting.....we started off well with garlic potato wedges and then it went downhill....noodles, pasta lots of packet soup and baked beans on toast have been the most popular! but we are attacking cooking this week with renewed vigour!

we have a lizard who lives with us. his name is lionel. apart from that i can't realy think of that much to say about where we live....we have pictures and letters above our beds - all letters are very very very much appreciated! and go straight up on the wall and are re read constantly! (hint hint)

oh yeah. last night It was another gappers birthday called Siobhan, she was 18 and Toral, her family and all the gaps went to pizza hut! it was gorgeous. i had a cheese pizza. cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese - that is what i miss. so so so much. cheeeeeseeeeeeeeeeeeeee. ok sorry this is a blog not my mind. Nats has brought a helpful cookbook called gourmet meals for two filled with gorgeous things which we haven't a hope in hell of making but enjoy a good evening sitting in bed salivating over the pictures. who needs to eat eh?

anyway sidetracked - last night got back from pizza hut. me and nats were all dolled up it was like a night out we actually washed our hair (the first time in a week because we were scared of the element heater thingy) anyway got back got in the room and later Nats says, "Katie, I don't know how to tell you this, but there's a spider on the ceiling behind you." I turned round and the BIGGEST spider i have EVER seen was behind me. anyone who knows me knows what i did. ran straight out of the room and curled up against a wall outside. nats wasn't far behind! so both shaking and in their pyjamas the terrible two fly across the school campus in the pitch black and acost the nightwatchman (who incidentally doesnt know a word of english which obviously helps the process invaluably) we drag him to our room and when he eventually realises that its not an intruder and sees the spider..starts laughing uncontrollably. (meanwhile nathalie and katie are up against the wall outside shaking....) and way it was got rid of. that's the main thing but that was our big drama last night!

new volunteer coming tonight at the school so that will be interesting. i still have to write about our experiences at haridwar and chilla etc... so will do asap. the school might try and lets us on the internet so maybe soon i will be able to blog more. anyway love to all - till next time xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

p.s - thank you for all the kind comments, messages and those who have sent letters! much appreciated!!!!!!
