Deepdiwali in Banaras seems like it happened ages ago--looking back I can't even recall whether it was in October or November that the three of us travelled to India for the holiday. But the beauty of old school film cameras (as opposed to instant gratification digital) is that several months later, when you finally get around to developing all of your film, your photos take you back to a trip you had almost forgotten--to the smell of ginger streaming up from your chai at dawn, as you stand on Assi ghat and overlook the morning's puja, or to the feel of the breeze that you catch as you walk along the Ganga. Sometimes I threaten that I'll switch to digital, but these photos remind me that there is something valuable in the anticipation of what your images will look like and the reminder of the moment when you took that photo.
