Rajasthan is famous for its monuments and they are a defining part of the culture and heritage of the state. The royal monuments contribute to the grandeur and aura of the state. There are several monuments of Rajasthan which have made it to the covers of national and international journals and newspapers. Many monuments have been nominated to the status of World Heritage monuments and here are 5 of them which have brought Rajasthan a lot of glory.
The Fort of Ranthambore
The gigantic and majestic Fort of Ranthambore stands proudly in the middle of Ranthambore National Park. This fort has been the center of many major developments that have happened in the history of Rajasthan. The Ranthambore Fort has been the talking point of every tourist’s. The Ranthambore Fort is situated near the town of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. The Fort is a tribute to the glory and valour of the fierce king Hammir Dev who belonged to the dynasty of Chauhan. The fort is perched on top of a hill and offers a bird’s eye view of the National Park. The construction of the now famous monument was done in 944 AD by Nagil Jats. The location of
the fort is strategic and it has huge gates, tall walls and beautiful temples. There is only a single entry point to Fort and 3 Hindu temples; Ganesha, Ranji and Shiva are situated in the complex. The Fort Complex also has a Jain Temple inside it.
Chittorgarh Fort
The Fort of Chittorgarh is the highest symbol of the pride and honour of every loyal Rajasthan resident. The Chittorgarh Fort is the largest Fort in terms of area and is perched at the high altitude of 180 meters on top of a hillock. The Fort has a spread area of 700 acres and 40%!o(MISSING)f the area is made up of water bodies. 7
th Century Mauryans had built the Chittorgarh Fort which is spread over 700 acres. Such is the strength and power of the fort that it is believed that Bhima of the Pandava Clan had built it. The approach to Chittorgarh Fort is through seven massive Gates which are guarded by spiked watch doors. This monument is a tribute to the Rajput rulers of Rajasthan who placed the highest importance on their honor.
Kumbhalgarh Fort
Kumbhalgarh Fort is a very old Mewar Bastion which towers in the
middle of the picture perfect Rajasmand district of Southern Rajasthan. The Kumbhalgarh Fort is situated just 82 km towards the north Eastern part of Udaipur (also known as tourism capital of Southern Rajasthan). The Fort was constructed by Rana Kumbha and that is how it got its name in the 15
th Century AD. It is possible to get a bird’s eye view of the whole area from the top of Fort. The fort is surrounded by 13 high mountain peaks and is perched at the highest ridges which are 1914 meters above the sea level. The wall that strengthens the fort is 36 km and this makes it the 2
nd longest wall in the world right after the Great Wall of China. There are several temples, gardens and palaces inside the complex.
Amber Fort
The Fort of Amber is located in the tiny town of Amer that is just 11 km away from the Pink City Jaipur. The Fort was constructed by Maharaja Man Singh 1 and it stands on top of a small hill that flanks the Maota Lake. The Fort is divided into 4 principal sections that each have an entry gate and a courtyard. The Amber
Fort was the seat of Rajasthan Royalty before the Jaipur City formally came into existence. Within the huge walls of the fort there are several palaces, gardens, halls and temples encrusted with glittering mirror work. A famous temple Jai Mandir in the Fort houses Sheesh Mahal that is also known as Hall of Mirrors.
Gagron Fort or Jhalawar Fort
Gagron Fort or the Jhalawar Fort is the biggest symbol of the architecture of Rajasthan in terms of strategy, concept and design. You can feel the charisma and velour of famous Rajasthan stories seeping in from every corner of the Fort as you
visit Rajasthan. This Fort is surrounded by pools of water on all sides as the rivers Anu, Sindh and Kali lie on all three sides. The fourth side is flanked by a moat of water that protects the fort against assault. The fort is also fondly referred to as the Jaldurg. This is an 8
th Century monument that once served as the capitals of Khichi Chauhans.
