Our balcony in Pushkar
Where we watched the world go by. After a freezing overnight bus trip we disembarked at 4am in what we were told was Pushkar. The dark, empty streets gave no indication that this was a “mystical town around a holy lake”, as described in our guide book.
As we got our bearings, and our bags, a smiling young man with a limp appeared and escorted us to our hotel. We were given blankets, shown to our room and left to enjoy the sleep our bus journey had denied us.
We awoke late, opened the doors to our balcony and were greeted by a view of a mystical town around a holy lake, drenched in sunshine with a huge blue sky rising from the distant hills. The balcony became a prominent feature of our time in Pushkar, where booze, eggs and meat are frowned upon but marijuana milkshakes are on the menu at all cafes and restaurants.
After doing not very much for a few days, we moved on to Jaipur to see our friend Woody from Mumbai perform at a fashion show. The fashion show took place in Jaipur's best hotel and was attended by the who's who of Rajasthan. Tracy and I sat in
the sound booth and watched Woody play saxophone while beautiful models walked the cat walk.
We did some more sight seeing around Jaipur but found it a little underwhelming after seeing Rajasthans other forts and palaces and were kinda glad to get on the train out of town. Unfortunatly we wouldn't get to our next destination, amritsar, until 2pm Christmas day :-(
