At last the day has arrived and Pauline and i suitably dressed in our crocodile hunting gear set off in yet another taxi to the Mandovi River in search of the famous "Mugger Crocodiles'
We arrived at the river after a journey of about an hour, passing through some dusty old vilages and jungle type scenery.
We boarded a rather rickety old boat and with our guide Gupta set off down the tidal river, soon branching off into a small tributary lined with Mangroves and smelling distincly of crocodiles.
Itwas not long before Gupta got very excited and pointed to the bank, where to our delight sat the biggest crocodile I had ever seen in my life. Not content with looking from a distance he decided to take us in close and soon we were literally about 6 ft away from a 4/5 meter monster. I took some photos very quickly and soon the beast waoke up and like lightening flipped into the water.
We saw many crocs during the day but none as fearsome as the first. We saw lots of different wild birds ranging from Herons, egrets and spoonbills to several varieties of Kingsisher. During the trip we were well fed and watered and returned to Candolim about 4.00 tired but very satidfied with the trip
