Hello, Laura here.

We have had a fantastic time in Jaipur. Our train journey from Delhi was much better than expected. After hearing several horror stories about the Indian Railways we were concerned about our first journey. However, the train was on time, comfortable, relatively clean and even had a choice of 'indian style' or 'western style' toilet! Jamie and I began playing cards, a couple of Indian men next to us were watching and seemed to understand the gist of it so I offered to deal them into the next round. Our ability to communicate was very limited though. At the next station a lady who worked in a call centre for vodafone boarded the train and sat close to us. She became a translator and we spent the rest of the 6 hours chatting and playing a variety of card games. All in all, a very enjoyable journey and ironically one of our favourite parts of the trip so far!

The hostel we're staying in is very nice! Much nicer than in Delhi (although a little more expensive) and has a rooftop restaurant, which is great for breakfast in the Rajasthan sunshine! It is quite hot here during the day, but gets very cold at night because all the buildings are designed to keep the heat out!

In Jaipur we really enjoyed exploring the maze that is the Amber Fort and Amber Palace (google these if you have time and are interested). We got asked if we would have our photo taken with some Indians, at first we didn't understand and thought they wanted money, but they just wanted they're photo taken with some white people! We obliged, although we found it very awkward.

They have a variety of animals here, mostly strays, but they are looked after really well, none of them look remotely skinny! We have seen overweight dogs with coats fashioned out of sack cloth! There have been goats with tshirts on (Jamie's favourite), pigs and cows, all wandering the street. Camels and elephants are often on the roads, employed as transport!

I'll leave it here and I don't want to go on and on and bore you!
We're off to Pushkar tomorrow, which is a holy place for Hindus, so no alcohol, meat or eggs are allowed there!
