16 Flight delayed a further 3 hours so land in New Delhi at midday, begin walking then hitch a free lift into the city to moustache hostel in Greater Kailash, hot shower, finally tuktuks for a very fair price! Secure a train ticket to Amritsar for 2pm next day, wander Delhi, get my flops fixed for the fourth time ha, (Ghana fix on flop 1 holding strong) truffle pig some street treats before returning to GK1. 10/01/16 Much needed sleep and a quick whip around the lotus temple, India gate & red fort via the metro and Tuks, relieved after arriving late at station to find out watch was set 20 mins fast!; quite liking Delhi but choose to take common advice and move on fast, 2nd class window seat / few hours on the person shelf clocks into Amritsar @ 10pm, free ride into the golden temple area for street snacks onto my intended stay, 500 inr swagat hotel" disappointing yet right next to temple. 11/01/16 Sweep around town, bus station scout and move to a slightly better place, visit golden temple site, set up SIM card & wander the major park/garden area. A little underwhelmed with Amritsar, grab a
decent dinner and return to visit inside of golden temple without silly queues.
12/01/16 slight lay in before catching the direct bus to Dharmsala, 7 hours 230 inr via lunch stop @ panthakot and some Indian man spread from my neighbour during the second half hah. Stay at a nicer place for 400 inr with buttered chicken for grub + finding these 30p cornettos hard to turn down. 13/01/16 wander a little around the local area and catch the bus uphill to McLeod ganj late morning, the town home of the Dali Lama himself and his Tibetan parliament in exile, there's no shortage of Buddhist monks strolling the streets on their daily duties, a strong Tibetan community along with the odd white pilgrim who've joined the cause make for a insence fuelled hippy atmosphere. I spend most the day wandering the very many shops & stalls , lots of green and pleasant cafes & restaurants.i imagine heaving in peak season, a very nice little museum if not a political protest itself & a visit to the Tibetan Temple with its rather stunning interior, not that the temple building shaped around the existing pines dripping with pink butt monkeys is
a bad thing itself. Try out some Tibetan dinner before retiring to the Tokyo hostel 250 inr to sleep alone in an 8 bed dormitory hah. 14/01/16 kick off on the 4 hour hike to Triund Hill, (nearest achievable viewpoint) a steep but pleasant climb for some off season hazy Himalayan views, a peaceful excursion well worth the fresh air & snowy peaks above. Return to McLeod ganj before 3pm, manage to get some cheeky shopping done, parcel made up and a double flip flop fix..for time number six! After having my Bikaner train confirmed during the day I return to Dharamsala 300 inr stay this time ready for a 5am bus. Arrive in beautiful Pathankot for breakfast and join my Rajastan bound sleeper train @ 11am
