sleeping sound :-)
resting assured now that ALL the money belts are securely fastened to my body!!! WE DID IT!!!!!
so here we are in India!! took us about 2 & 1/2 hours after our flight landed to actually arrive at the hotel we're staying at becuase of a little mix up with the transfer we arranged through Gap *(note to self for the future...NEVER do anything through Gap Adventure Tours again...all of you can also feel free to boycott the company willing to leave us stranded at the airport alone and with no contact numbers that actually work! :-ยท
anyhoo... after a few shady run-ins with the locals on our first day we opted to get into our room and lock the door for our first 36 hours in India.
**GOOD NEWS: we came prepaired for such a situation.
we have made good use of the cards, various trivia booklets, crayons & coloring books and a few (3) english channels on the beat up tool of a tv we have in our room. ***GOOD NEWS AGAIN we have taken a fond liking to the various indian music videos complete with elaborate costumes and settings... and have found that in India, 60+yr old men making advances to 16+yr old girls is not only accepted on tv...but is
quite popular. (thus far jen has had no complaints.)
Yesterday was our first full day here and we decided to hit the market (this was only after waking up at 1am India time and realizing there was no way we were going to be able to go back to sleep....so we stayed up playing games and killing time (and about 198,120 bugs) until it was a safe enough time for us to go outside.
We have both agreed that we have never looked so bad, (we're litterally melting becuase of the heat right now) but felt so beautiful...EVER!! the both of us were making heads turn left right and center because of our pale complexion and cartoon-like clothing compared to what the locals are all wearing.
we spent most of the afternoon sweating it out going in and out of shops and looking at all the stands of sari's, sandals etc.etc. and found the farther into the city we went, the more popular our pale skin was making us!!(cant even count how many times we were offered rides somewhere...or asked for money to feed babies who arent old enough to speak, but are still extending their little hands
shopping :-)
*note* there are men laughing in the backround cuz i keep asking for colors and designs...and they dont speak a whole lot of english!!! for money)
we cruised for most of the day trying to find the perfect sari, but decided to get punjabi 3 piece suites instead. (this is a thin pair of capri/pants, longer loose fitting shirt and chiffon scarf)
there are various picutures of us in the fitting room (which is just an open room with 5 watching men :-S ) trying to see which colors look best. (pictures below:-)
after an exhausting day in the heat we decided it was time for a much needed shower. of course...given the hotel we are in, and the price we're paying, one cant expect much in the way of ammenities...but is it too much to ask that you should come out of the shower cleaner then you were when you first went in??????? apparently it is!!!! (please refer to the picture of jen and her facial expression below.)
after showering, killing a few more bugs and trying to plug a few holes in the wall to keep them from infesting EVERYTHING we layed down and passed out.
(jen woke up shortly after cuz her belly started growling and made the bold decision to purchase a currie-chicken bowl...which inevitably woke me up once the
DSC01585
we checked the menu...only chicken and veggie burgers in India!! (oh,and cheap water which we definately purchased) sweet scent hit my nostrils :-) i had a few bites and decided that if that bowl had enough disease to take us down...i wasnt going along with her!!! so jen finished it off and then went to sleep...and is sitting next to me now, so it appears as though (knock on wood) everything is ok in terms of digestion :-)
its 4:15am in the morning here (3:45 in the afternoon at home) and the both of us are wide awake. (this is what inspired us to mozy on down here and sneak onto the computer while ppl are asleep so we dont have to pay!! mmwwahahaa!!!
there are litterally four men sleeping within 6 feet of us right now... the room attendants apparently live here, and make use of the couches in the lobby while everyone is asleep :-)
ok ok ...jen is reminding me now that this is a blog and not a novel :-$ so ill stop my ranting here... talk to you all soon
xoxo
