I was really lucky to go to Kerala along with my family and on top of that.........my love for hill stations made me even happier to visit Munnar. Though it was a short trip ( Just from Morning 11AM to Sunset), I can remember each and every moment of that trip. So I felt that my travelling experience is worth sharing here.
Right after my semester exams, I was really yearning for a break after the hectic study and work. To my delight, my dad planned a trip for Kerala, which was most welcoming during monsoon and winter. We headed from Hyderabad to Kochi on 24th November 2005..........and I could instantly feel the difference between Kerala and other south indian states I've visited. I then understood why Kerala is called the "God's own country"........it was as if the place was completely filled with green paint all over. Anyone could instantly feel at peace after setting foot into this serene place.
We reached Kochi by flight from Hyderabad by 3:30 PM during afternoon and on the evening, we just had some quick look at the city and did some shopping before getting ready to our big trip to Munnar the next day,
which would take the complete day off us. The beauty of Kochi was really amazing. The atmosphere, the food, the people, was really peaceful, especially after living from twenty long years in a completely busy and noisy city like Hyderabad.Till then, I did not see the beauty of Munnar yet..........so I was eager to see how better Munnar is going to be.........if Kochi is so peaceful.
Dinner was a peaceful affair that night, which we had in the hotel we resided. We really felt relaxed because we were out of all responsibilities and tensions and just let back of everything and enjoyed the atmosphere.
The next day morning, that is 24th November 2005, was the most memorable day for me when trips are concerned. The journey from Kochi to Munnar lasted for three hours, which was a photographer's treat.I could not miss even one frame of landscape, I shot each and every frame which I could capture from the car which we were travelling. We bumped into three fantastic waterfalls, which made us feel at heaven. And no need to mention about the beautiful views filled with green and coconut trees wherever I could lay my eyes on.
It
took us three hours of breathtaking journey in winding roads which was a creepy path......and by the time we reached Munnar, it was 11AM in the morning. I had the most refreshing tea in my life at a small teashop, and it made me change my opinion on drinking tea forever. I am not much of a tea drinker, and one can imagine the goodness of Munnar tea which made me change my opinion about it!! I could see almost some hundreds of varieties of tea powders in sale in small shops laid artistically in the mist of Munnar, which made even those simple place a pleasure to stay.
We had a wonderful boat ride in Matupetty lake that afternoon, By afternoon I dont mean the sunny, sweaty afternoons of Hyderabad, but all the more pleasant afternoons of Munnar filled with cool breeze which is so soothing to any person who is tired of living metro lives breathing polluted air almost all the time. I managed to capture some good elephants while I was on the boat, which was a great sight.
After this boat ride, we just spent some time in the actual Munnar town, where there was some good shopping for tourists from other places rather than Kerala. There were many varieties of spices which a person like me living in a city would never imagine to find, and to my delight.........home made chocolates!!!Well, this was really unexpected for me because I never imagined to find hundreds of varieties of Chocolates in a hillstation.......
We had tea(yet again........thats what Munnar is all about.......you love having tea at any time there!!)at 4PM or so........and headed to an awesome but secluded Church......which is supposed to be the most ancienct churches in Kerala. It was the most peaceful churches I have ever seen.........and was the best of all I can say.
By the time we started really appreciating the beauty of this fantastic place, it was time for us to return to Kochi because we did not plan for a day long trip to Munnar. It was sad for me though, to leave such a wonderful place and get back to the usual traffic, noise, and dust of the cities.......but somewhere in my mind I knew that I would definetly return to this place sometime later in my life again!!!So with this feeling, We started our journey back to Kochi, by 5PM in the evening(it was getting dark already there) and got back to our hotel by night time.
