Hey everybody!!

Although very humid, being in Fort Cochin felt a big relief. South India is slightly less crazy! The driving is still pretty exciting, the electrical cables still hang low in the street, the assumption that you need a tuk tuk is still pretty persistent & the cockeral that wakes you up here in the morning, I can only assume is getting paid on the hour, almost every hour.

We decided to wander after our lie in, first stop, food! We had a taster, we know this village has good food & we want more!

Kashi Art Cafe! Amazing! Homemade bread, a sign saying they’re water is good to drink & their fruit is washed in good water too! Iced tea & iced coffee hit the spot & my tuna sandwich & Jonny’s chicken sandwich confirmed that we’d be back!

We then walked around some more, went & saw the huge fishing nets, then through a couple more villages, walking through streets that smelled of spices & lots of goats & ended up in Jewtown.

After having a much need cold shower & researched trying to get to where we want to go til the point where the netbook nearly joined the cockeral & the daily yelling man, outside, & went for dinner. Oceanos!

Steve who we had spent some time chatting to about his travels had taken our recommendation & gotten himself to Oceanos. We all got to enjoy a very confusing (well, I got it, they didn’t) story from the waitor, who was a cross between Manwell from Faulty Towers, Mr Bean & Freddie Mercury. He was, as he described Jonny’s earring “Fabulous!”

After arranging a breakfast date with Thomas & Ellie, who we met in the North, we tried abit more planning & went to bed defeated.

Kumar let us stay another night as we decided we should probably get our butts into gear & get things booked. Leaving your options open is all well & good incase an amazing opportunity arises but it can cause real problems when trying to book transport in India!

Due to Thomas & Ellie having the same organising deadlines as us we had a wicked breakfast, had to turn down being extras in a film (we had to look like shocked pool siders after 2 men fell in the pool, we’ll be very disappointed when “Husbands in Goa” make it big!) & after hearing some quotes on tours decide to meet later & decide on something.

We decided on a tour that was run by Mr Stanley Wilson. Mr Wilson was very helpful, explaining the tour & also helping us with how to get to our next destination (which also confirmed what Kumar said).

Feeling a lot better about our plans we went back & booked some flights & came to the tough decision that Varanasi would not be one if our stopping points this time. As much as this is disappointing, we know that if we were to visit India again,it would be the South, but we could squeeze in a cheeky 2 day trip to the Ganges.

Next post, the tour!
