Tuesday 24th Got the bus back to Nixys.
Wednesday 25th Completed my goal swam the length of the lake and half way back but because of time constraints had to walk the other half home. My next objective to swim to the end of the lake and back in one go.
I had my hair cut to day and my neck shaved with an open razor.
Thursday 26th Two goals achieved first today I met the lady who hopefully will become my bride she is lovely her name is Ruby and she is a gem however, her brother is very protective to her. I will know the result by next Monday. I completed my swam to the end of the loch and back in thunder and lightning, just thinking of Ruby I do hope it works out.
Tomorrow my host father Antony is taking me to a major Hindi feasible.
Friday 27th I did not sleep well last night yet it was the coolest night since I arrived here, I just lay and thought how my life may be changing if it works out well with Ruby, will I be able to look after her, will she be happy
living in a in foreign land and culture, can she withstand our climate all questions going through my head. However it may not happen.
Had a lazy morning had a shave and bath in the loch followed by a short swim. This afternoon I am going with my host father to see a Hindi festival.
Host father Antony phoned Ruby’s brother. The wedding s on Ruby and I are to be married.
I went to the festival. I have never seen so many people in one place watching twelve huge elephants with men standing on their backs holding big what looks like big table tennis bat’s and another man holding a big pom, pom’s alternating to drum beats followed trumpet blasts then a BANG! From fireworks, we then move on to another part of the festival and the elephants with the men holding coloured umbrellas that changed colour to drum beats and trumpet blasts. While watching this spectacular event I became aware of someone playing with my penis! I tried to give this man a Glasgow Kiss but he smartly moved out of range and I missed him. After this we returned home and I went to bed at 22:00
Saturday 28th Suddenly I woke up at 03:00 thinking of the responsibility I now have, Ruby’s welfare is in my hands.
Now the race is on so much to do and little time to do it Get Ruby’s passport, get certificates from the UK saying I am unmarried and catholic. Arrange transport home to Glasgow for Ruby and get ready for a wedding, can I stand the pace? My host sister Nixy is a great organiser I would be lost without her, not only is she looking after me but her demanding month old baby Albin.
Went to Ruby’s home it is very small, went with her brother to see the village priest, he was out and we could not wait.
Sunday 29th Had a restless night thinking of problems that lay ahead I will contact the first problem tomorrow UK emigration to find out how to get a visa for Ruby.
I had a good swim and bath eight o’clock in the morning in the hot sunshine.
I spoke to Ruby’s priest this afternoon, he had two questions for me “Are you a catholic?” “Are you free to marry?” yes I said to both questions and I gave him my parish priest phone number a bit of the jigsaw completed.
Monday 30th I Have a small abscess on the ball of my left big toe and during one of my swims I hit this toe on a rock and broke the nail and bruised the nail bed, I have a small infection on the end of my toe I will need to watch this
Tuesday 1st May Today it is Saint Josephs feast day in this village this should have been held on March 17th but on that week there was a tragic boating accident involving the village school and some children and a teacher were killed. So saint Joseph’s day was held over. To Saint Joseph’s The Worker Day.
Today my big toe is painful to walk on.
The village chapel celebrate feast days by not only saying a special mass, they feed the village as well.
This afternoon the brother of Preya (who is a nurse working in Glasgow) took me to his home. I was treated like a king, given the best room in the house it had a cooling fan that nearly had me blown out of my bed.
Preya mother prepared a feast for me fish fry, fish curie and beef curie, rice appam
After the feast Preya’s brother took me on his motorcycle over some roads with very bad surface to hospital where I got my toe fixed. I had to wait my turn in the queue this made me feel better, hen it was my turn the doctor asked if I mind waiting for a few minutes as he would like to attend to someone who is very ill. These people are so polite. While waiting I had a look round this hospital casualty department it is clean and bright. The doctor lanced and cleaned my septic toe and he wore gloves however, the nurse assisting did not wear gloves.
Wednesday 2nd May he next day Liam (Preya’s brother)Took me to The Elephant training centre. This turned out to be a Zoo the old type of Zoo with neurotic monkeys pacing back and forth, one who was very pregnant in a very small cage. The Zoo was in a very poor state of repair. Why can they not have open areas where the monkeys can live a more natural life?
The elephants also seem to be neurotic continually crossing there front legs the are tethered to one spot out in the open, this Zoo upsets me. After this unpleasant experience Liam to me back to Nixy’s home.
To have a meeting with Ruby’s two brothers the younger brother is not pleased he said I was too old for Ruby the proposal is off I am devastated.
Thursday 3rd May William Wallace will be turning in his grave. Took a taxi and two bus with to celebrate Saint Georges feast day. This consisted of taking a live cockerel killing it and cooking it into a delicious chicken curie over a simple wood fire and eating it off a banana leave. Giving a small donation to Saint Georges Church and kissing St Georges feet. Then we returned home.
To he news the proposal is now back on I’m elated, and two certificates I need is in the post.
I am writing this blog on the roof of the house thunder is rolling about the sky with flash’s of lightning and it is so hot.
