Sunset at Muzhuppilangad!Sunset at Muzhuppilangad!Sunset at Muzhuppilangad!

Without doubt, an amazing spectacle indeed!!
Beaches in Kerala, India are rapidly establishing as one of the most attrative and talked about in the world with its lovely stretches of clean sand, swaying palm trees and rippling waves embracing them. I recently visited "Muzuppilangad beach" in Kannore district in north Kerala. Mind you these ares are totally unexplored, magical and out of this world compared to the well known and commercial ´Kovalam´ beach in south Kerala near the state capital Thiruvananthapuram. The one thing I noticed about this beach is its cleanliness. It is stunningly clean and has almost a devine look to it.. Added to this is the fact that it is one of the longest stretch of beaches and the only drive in beach in India. Of the 7 kms of its length one can drive through almost 4 kms. The amazing thing about Muzhuppilangad is that it is one of the safest beach in the whole of India for swimmers. As it is protected by rock formations from the outside sea and is pretty shallow, one can easily walk into the sea upto a distance of 1 km safely. The beach curves in a wide area providing a good view of Kannur town in

the north. In the south about 150 meters away from the beach there is a beautiful island (privately owned) called ´Dharmadam Island (or Green Island) which adds to the beauty of this beach. Very few beaches can boast of an island like this so close to its shores. Dharmadam is a small 2 hectre private island covered with coconut palms and dense bushes. Just like the famous St Michael´s Mount off the coast of Cornwall in the U.K, one can at low tides just walk to the island from the beach. Please remember that it is privately owned and you may need permission to enter this place. The sunset here is truely remarkable. The few snaps I am attaching must give you a feel of the true beauty of the place.
Getting here:
It is situated 1 km west of NH 17 trunk road, 15 kms from Kannur and 8 kms from Tellicherry where there are trains to most of the india cities. The nearest International Airport is at Kozhikode (formerly Calicut)about 95 kms to the south. It is better to stay either in Kannur or on Tellicherry as there is only one resort in the area. As they are

only opening up to tourists the standards are still not that high. It may take a few more years for the resorts and hotels of the area to get to an acceptable level and up to that point my adviseis to stay in good hotels in the nearby Tellicherry and Kannur. Whatever the small hiccups, this place still is well worth visiting only for its stunning beauty. If any of you need any further information on this place feel free to contact me. I wish you a smashing holiday where ever you are. Take care and God Bless!
Cheers,
Kris

How far is this from Neyyar Dam, Kerala?
This looks a place well worth visiting - are there any hotels you would recommend? Are there any yoga/spiritual courses in this area? Any advice you may have would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Barb.
