Belur & Halebid

After Mysore I wondered around Somnathpur, Belur and Halebid to soak in some of the amazing Hoysala temple art.
I just love these temples. I can not see enough of them. The intricate carving, the amazing sculptures magical...and the best of all I was alone in most of the time. The architecture is nothing I ever seen before and I find very interesting the temples built on a star formed platform.
I also visited Sravanabelagola and got introduced to a new religion -Jainism- in form of a hilltop temple and a naked Gomateshwara statue measuring 18 meter( apparently the largest monolith statue in the world ??). Jainism was founded in 3rd century BC in India and never left the country. In a Jain temple you can see the naked statues of the jainist thirtankars ( sages and most revered teachers) The temple in Sravanabelagola is one of the main Jain pilgrimage sites of India.
If you plan to do the trip to Sravanabelagola bring socks and plan the vist early morning. This is a sacred pilgrimage site, so you have to climb the 641 steps cut on the stone barefoot. The endless stone steps which lead you up the hill are uncovered, totally lacking of any shade and it gets really hot around 10AM, so any time later than that, there is a fair chance to bake your feet. ( no fun).
Of course you can skip climbing and ask some of the porters to carry you uphill in one of those comfy looking chairs too ; )

Ps. Note that the splelling in Sravanabelagola or Srawanabelagola under the pics differ. I have seen the name spelled both ways, and couldn't decide which one was right so I used a bit of both ; )

Mysore után a Hoysala templomok következtek a soron a kulturális és történelmi nevezetességek listáján. A legtökéletesebb hely hogy e fantasztikus művészetnek és kultúrának hagyatékaival megismerkedhessünk Somnathpur, Belur és Halebid.
A templomok csodálatosak és bátran állíthatom nem láttam még hozzájuk foghatót. A részletes aprólékos kőfaragások és szobrok ékesen díszítik a csillag alakú platformra épített templomok külső és belső falfelületeit. Teljesen egyedül vagyok a templomokkal mely magában ajándék : )
Meglátogattam Sravanabelagolát, s az ott tálalható Gomateshvara által megismerkedhettem egy új vallással, a Jainizmussal. A Jain vallás ie 3. századba vezethető vissza, s a buddhizmussal egyetemben megkérdőjelezte a kasztrendszer jogain előítéletekkel telitett hinduizmust. A vallási vezetők (filozófusok és tanítók) meztelen szobrai láthatók a templomaikban, ezek egyike az itt látható 18 méter magas szobor, mely egy hegy tetején levő templomban van elhelyezve, s állítólag a világ legnagyobb egy kőből faragott szobra ( a buddhizmussal ellentétben ez a vallás nem hagyta el az Indiai határokat s nem terjedt el más országokban)
Ha meg szeretnéd tekinteni a szobrot, jó, ha hozol magaddal zoknit és a látogatást kora reggelre tervezed a tavaszi és a nyári hónapokban, mivel a hegy maga és szent, így mezítláb leszel kénytelen megmászni a 641 meredek kőbe vájt lépcsőfokot. A végtelennek tűnő lépcsősor mindenféle árnyéktól mentes, így 10 óra körül már forrósodik, s elég nagy valószínűséggel odaégetheted a talpad ( nem vicces)
Persze ha gondolod, kihagyhatod a lépcsőmászást es felcipeltetheted magad a kulikkal potom pénzért 4 fiatal fiú a vállukra vett kényelmes széken fel is és le is szállítja a fáradékonyabbakat, illetve a kényelmesebbjét ; )
