Up in the middle of the night! 06:30 to check out of uor traveller friendly hotel!! Kipped down for a few hours in Bert and Joliens room . Had a shower......... yes a shower- apparently in non deluxe rooms you get one???!!!
Back to Negris for brunch- had a fab salad. Said our farewells (sad to say bye bye) and back on our travels we went. Got aircon c.c - could have had non aircon c.c only they failed to tell us that these were available. Knackered- dozed on and off. Scenery lush- rice fields and fields growing pampas grass. Got cheap rickshaw to hotel palace plaza- slightly over our budget but need some normality- it has a BATH, HOTWATER, towels and sheets- months ago since we had sheets and a bath!!
Had a long bath and watched tv. Went to park lane restaraunt for evening meal; beautiful setting; courtyard full of trees/ vines. Live music was played (sitar and drums) . Had fab meal- bloody huge though- eyes bigger than my belly!! No beer tonite!!! Slept from 00:30

woken at 07:30 by sun adn the horns beeping! back to sleep until
09:30 . Had bath and read newspaper/ watched tv- how civilised! Had brekkie in the hotel's dynasty dining room- cornflakes/ toast and marmalade- very substansial. The waiter told Bri he looks like a pop star!!! Christ knows which one!!
Went to mysore palace after being "made " to take our photos with the maharaja guard! They wanted the usual baksheesh- as usual none given! Palace very impressive inside, although some colours inside were very gaudy!! Fron there we went to a museum- very good one by indian standards; full of exhibits which weren't dusty!
Next stop was trying to find ghandi square- took ages! Walking through all the back streets; quite a vibrant city really- lots of street sellers with fruit, bright coloured candy, flower garlands. Eventually found ghandi square and a cafe recommended by lonely planet- heaven knows why!! I asked for a lemon soda/ mineral water/ chicken noodle soup........... I got a soda/ no mineral water (had to go and get some from a nearby street!) and chicken noodles........... on top of this they gae us an incorrect bill and a nam spitting on the scaffolding outside the cafe could be heard throughout!! After a marvellous lunch(!) we
sri chanindeswari temple
.. on chamindi hill
23/11/02 headed off to find a cyber cafe- this one was state of the art!! viruses a plenty/ disconnecting all the time and no "e" on the key board!! They also overcharged us for the privellege!!
Got back about 6ish adn went to viceroy roof garden for evening meal; food very good- I had mutton curry. Even had a beer each and managed to stay within budget!!

Woken at 07:00 by the school below!! Had teh biggest brekkie in history . My porridge bowl was "daddy bears!!. We set off to Chamundi hill on teh number 201 bus; packed with 200 indian people and 2 westerners!! (us!) Bus fare was a staggering Rs 4.5 each!
Got to the top of the hill (huge climb) to find preston market at teh top!! Why is it that everywhere you go- even a huge pilgrimage center... is tatt sold!! The "hello, school pen " brigade were out in full force! Went to teh "godly" museum for one minute- the lack of exhibits vs amount of monkeys was the deciding factor! The Sri Chamundeswari temple was impressive(did not go inside) with lots of pilgrims buying food offerings and garlands for their gods. Deicided
nandi
shiva bull vehicle to walk down the 1000 slippy steps (Bri can testify!) to the bottom of the hill via "Nandi" which is 5 m high- shiva's bull vehicle. Pretty cool- again lots of worshippers; the statue is coated with coconut husk, charcoal and ghee and is adorned waith flowers. Once at the bottom with wobbly legs we got a rickshaw to a sandalwood factory- ha ha it was crap!! A uniformed guard traipsed us through and empty factory (all on siesta!) speaking fast/ pigeon english for 5 mins. The sandalwood shop wasn't even open! Then booked our tickets to Ooty (Rs 250) . Then had usual funa nd games at a cyber cafe! A bloke managed to lose a 45 minute message that I typed to nicola! emailed lonely planet about their recent crap recommendations and returend to hotel. Went to parklane restaurant... again! Really good food/ had several beers for Rs 22... atmosphere very good- barbeque and live music

Had our usual mammoth breakfast . Spent ages deciding where to go- eventually chose Brindivan gardens - BIG MISTAKE! Took us 45 mins to get there, only to be told "no entry.... crisis" Apparently there is a water shortage in
the state and ... will not open. Got the same bus back , which was quite entertaining as loads of people got on from a local market- the women were very loud! Got back and went for a snack- 1st cafe we left as they had no food! Had veg samosas (Rs6) in the second one and a drink. Rang mum and then dad later as he was taking Cindy out. Strange to hear their voices; even stranger to talk about christmas!
We then went to Deveraja market- excellent; really colourful and noisy. Stall upon stall selling incense, dye, flowers, fruit. Bri became paparazzi in there!Bought some incense and soap . One of the oils smells like eternity (calvin Klein) - called 9 flowers; gorgeous smell
We then returned to hotel. Went to dynasty restaurant(our hotels) for evening meal -blimey we did not get left alone for more than five minutes!Main problem was too many waiters, with too many chiefs overseeing them! They were trying to force food on us and when I finished my food the plates were moved within one minute! Watched "mouse hunt" upstairs- entertaining, then packed. Bri's quote of the day "I'd give all of these
devaraji market mysore
Doing what I do best- shopping!! curries up if I could have one of Liz's dinners!"
