After having spent a fairly relaxing night on our last indian night train journey we have arrived in Mysore (Claudi has been to Mysore before 11 years ago). It is still pleasantly purely indian and there are very few westeners around. It is also pleasantly warm (about 22 C) and not humid. Yesterday we visited the Maharajas Palace and spent some time just wandering around the city. Everything is within walking distance and we enjoy not having to rely on transport.
Food here is significantly different to what we have had so far. We like it a lot. Mostly vegetarian and not too hot but still spicy, lots of rice (although chapatis and naans have become sparse) Unlimited Thalis are served on banana leaves and the curries are dished out from little buckets. Once you start there is hardly any limit.
In the centre of Mysore there is large market area which is beautiful just to look at. We bought a Mango, pineapple, custard apples, some honey tasting fruit that looks like potatoes, manadarins, pomelo and of course bananas. We had a fruitfeast in bed for breakfast this morning.
We've also taken a bus to Chamundi hill,
intending to stay in a posh hotel there but unfortunately it was all boarded up and we had a lovely walk down a 1000 steps with great views over Mysore.
We hope you have wonderful Christmas and would love to hear from you as to what you are up to.
Much love
Claudia and Terry
PS: Today on the 23rd of December it was the first time that someone has wished us a Merry Christmas in person!!
