Hello everyone, just a quick catch up as have to get on with some work today as boss is back in town. Last week I only managed a few days at work, Monday was strike day and Friday much to my delight was a holiday, only realised after being in work for a few hours that no one was coming in, I was led to believe it was a celebration of Shiva so the temples around the city was pretty crowded. During the week we all went to Taika, a club on Church Street in central Bangalore, for no reason whatsoever I won the valentines prize which is a day in F-Spa at Le Meridian 5* Hotel, so have that to look forward to at the weekend,
On Friday night we set out for another Indian adventure to Gokarna, on the west coast; about 12 hours drive from Bangalore. This time I had some British support from one guy, Joe, was nice to share some sarcastic banter and mock the Dutch and their silly accent, however this time I was severely out numbered 11 guys to just one little me, ah life could be worse I guess. We ended up
staying at Om beach, around 20 minutes from Gokarna town. The beach is pretty secluded, with several, simple ‘resorts’ if you can call them that as they’re just small groups of huts, we had to split up and luckily for me I got a luxurious hut with its own bathroom and mosquito net in Namaste, Rs 500 for 2 of us, which is about £3 each pretty expensive for Indian Beach Hut standards, but worth it for a good night sleep.
We arrived early Saturday morning having travelled by sleeper bus, I honesty thought we might die, the roads are crazy, and being at the top of a Double Decker Indian bus doesn’t seem the safest method of transport, after a unsettled nights sleep we eventually arrived safe and sound at about 10am. The combination of bumpy roads and Indian men who seemed to produce large quantities of saliver every 5 or 6 minutes made my journey truly splendid, if anyone knows the reason why Indian men do this and how the produce so much and spit all day long please tell me as I just can find any the resoning behind it, is it a sign of manliness?
Sitting on the beach!
This is pretty much all we did! I don’t think it’s dietary, as I have been eating Indian food for some time now and its not having the same effect on me.
All day Saturday we sat on the beach, had a siesta and played some pool. Complemented by some culinary delights in the evening which put an end to a very relaxing day, a great contrast from our weeks in the city, and most importantly I finally have a tan!! Om beach is quiet, clean, and great for some peace and sun, but not the most spectacular beach I have visited but well recommended for time out. The main downside was that all day we got harassed by cows, another thing I cant understand, the cows run freely because they are sacred, but when they come near an Indian person on the beach they hit them and chase them away, in my eyes not really a sacred act! Why not tie them up and feed them? A little more honourable than beating them and nearly running them over you would think.
On Sunday after having a wonderful and peaceful nights sleep we had breakfast and travelled by boat a few minutes to Paradise Beach,
Annoying cow in the dark
I have decided cows are no longer my favourite farm animal an even more secluded beach with several huts and a small restaurant, spent most of the day relaxing in a hammock looking out to sea, chatting and swimming, it’s safe to say we didn’t want to leave. The time came at about 8pm last night and we set off for our long journey ahead, by this time I had overcome my fear of death and was surrounded only by our group so had a good nights rest, thankfully as we arrived around 7am this morning and am straight back at work.
Have just found out that I am off for another bus journey to Prakasham on the east, tsunami hit coast, to visit a project and help with some interviews, all well and good but it's tonight! ahh need sleep!
Hope you are all well and enjoying the weather, it’s about 30 degrees here and getting hotter if that helps.
Lots of Love
Kate

spit
hello kate. hope everything is well with you. you're realy not missing much here. now the reason why alot of indian men spit is because they like to chew on bitter nuts which produce an endless amount of spit. now you know! xx
