We started our journey at 8:00 in the morning. It took around 3 hours to reach our destination which is Majestic Maithon Dam, located between the border of Jharkhand and West Bengal. The dam is owned and governed by DVC (Damodar Valley Corporation). The roads were OK with mix of bumpy and smooth rides.
First thing first, it is one of the most beautiful places in Jharkhand if you love lakes. There is a separate parking & washroom for the visitors there with 20-30 ready to eat food stalls (Pani puri, chat & Chinese snacks) just beside the parking.
There a lots of places near the dam, where one can relax and enjoy the mother nature. This place is great for photography. Speed boats and normal boats are available round the year. The ticket ranges from Rs.200 to 400 per ride per boat. There are few islands in the lake which enhances the beauty of the lake. One of the nearest island is" Chamach Pahar" because its shape resembles like a spoon. Earlier, it was allowed to deboard on that island, but recently government has ban the place for public deboarding. Guess the reason - yes you are right,
disturbance of beauty by the visitors.
There is a deer park situated at the other side of the dam situated just besides the hydropower, which is again a beauty to watch. You won't be allow to walk over the dam gates because of the security reasons, even you can't stop your car in between.
Personally, I love photography and I spent around 4-5 hours there with my DSLR, you can see the photographs attached.
There are few resorts over there for the accommodation and few temples for more exploration. Overall the place is very beautiful and a must recommended place to visit in Jharkhand
