Storm over Shimla
View from the Doegar's terrace Escaped from Delhi's heat and expense and took the trains up to Shimla - the toy train from Kalka winds up the steep hillsides - scary and very, very scenic.
Shimla is somewhere south of the Hymalayas and is 21,000 ft above sea-level, so plenty high enough for us!
Bought jeans, trainers and waterproofs as the weather was cold and very wet due to the monsoon. Shimla has only three months of rain in the year and of course, we arrived in the middle of it. We loved this place - everything you could possibly want is here, in this small town clinging to the hills. It's a hybrid admix of ghastly English stuff left over from the Raj with more interesting local building. .
Monkeys roam the streets fighting with dogs and everyone else...
Stayed at the Doegar Hotel, faded red plush and mirrored ceilings...very 60s! But they were fun and was really sorry to leave - especially after the storms blew into town...
And Paul, you were right - being in Shimla IS like 'walking in the sky'...
