Dear all, this is Manali, a small town discovered in the 1960s by trekkers who have fortunately discovered a most beautiful corner of the earth but unfortunately turned it into a mini hectic india full of advertisments , dogs, rickshaws and men desperate for you to stay at their cheep guest houses. unfortunately we were not ready to accept this welcome when we first arrived due to a nasty scary bus ride all night. After consulting a dog with mange and a cup of chai we quickly retreated into Old Manali and found a beautiful room right in the green mountains with the snow capped himalayas waving to us in the distance and filling us with smiles. The mix of people here was quite amazing and their dress- Indians, Tibetan and Kashmiri people. Here was our stop gap of 2050m before our ascent into the Himalayas. we drove up to Rohtang La (3978m) which was just stunning, a view which looked towards the Spiti valley. We met on the way lots of school children from Punjab (with beautiful beards) who just were so pre -occupied by us that im sure most of their photos contained us rather than the awe inspiring view. We discovered that altitude does debilitating things to ones bladder and liberates the prudish in this baron oxygen limiting magical kingdom. xx
