So having seen some North Goa we decided to head back to Palolem in the South. It is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in India and we think so. There is a good atmosphere here too and it's easy to get around. Our friends from Anjuna wanted to check out the beach too and will probably follow us down in a day or so.
I decide to get some excercise in while I'm here so I rented a Kayak and paid for 5 days up front. I went out for my first paddle on our first morning and got a little farther each day. It's nice to do and I got around to different beaches down the coast. The bar staff didn't seem to mind me giving them wet money... 😊
I tried running on the beach too but that was a bit too much for me;I ended up with blisters on myfeet and nearly dropped after one really hard run. I decided to give the running up it seemed to be doing more harm than good. On top of that it is really hard to cool down here, being in the mid thirties all
day, so I end up going to dinner sweating a lot...
On our third day, Wednesday I think it was, I went for a walk up the beach to find a few people we had met over the last few days and nights. There was a silent disco on in a club at the other end of the beach that sounds really good,we never got to go last time so I wanted to rally troops to come out for the night.
I couldn't find any of the people that I wanted to find but bumped in to the two groups we were hanging around with in Arambol and Anjuna. We all decided to make an effort and get together for the night, which we did! We went out in force with a big group and had a brilliant night.
As anyone who has been at a headphone party will know its a little odd, when you take off your headphones all you can hear is a few groups chatting and feet stomping, and everyone looks like a tit flayling around the place. It does have great benifits though; you dont have to shout at the bar staff and
if you want to have a chat you just take off you headphones. Pretty cool and it can go on all night too.
We decided to treat ourselves the next night to some fresh fish. What a meal! I got a full Baracuda on a spit flavored and cooked in a Tandori clay oven. It was about a foot long and it comes out on a serving tray with salad, veg, chips and jacket potatos. It took me a while to get through but it was amazing. It was a bit out of our usual budget at Rs500 (8 euro) for a dinner but it was well worth it.
Claire got a medium sized lobster steamed and served the same way for a little more money.
I'll have to get the photos from Claire, I'll add them once I get them.
We have had a mission trying to send some stuff home. I have some stuff I'm not using and Claire has some presents so we took them in in our bags to pack them in the post office. When we got in we are told we will have to get them packed elsewhere and have to
come in the morning to send parcels. So once I found boxes and tape I packed up the boxes and brought them back in. This time the post office was closed, I suppose we should have known since it was Good Friday. It's a bit of a problem here... There are large Hindu, Muslim and Christian followings so there are a lot of religious public holidays, some we know about and most we obviously don't. We finally got back in on the Saturday which they were open on... and were told that the parcels were not packed correctly, aparently they have to be wrapped in white cloth for customs purposes, something they neglected to tell us the first day. So I wait in the post office while the girls go off to get the boxes wrapped up. Luckily the guy in the post office was very understanding and stayed open for an extra hour while we got the boxes wrappedto eventually send home.
Saturday night it the open air Silent Disco so we got a small group together to go to that, the headphones were too expensive to rent so we decided to go back to the bar. We stayed
up really late again as our group in the bar got bigger, it was coming to the end of most people time in Goa so we had to make the most of it before finally retiring to bed. Being our last day I had a few hangover cure drinks in the morning and spend the day talking crap and saying good bye to everyone. What can I say guys it's been emotinal...
Good Bye Palolem and Good Bye Goa, you'll be missed
