Later on in Anjuna, Goa
So, now we arrived in Goa. Our plane was about an hour late, but if you learn one thing here, it’s patience… Besides patience, India teaches you thankfulness. I am just so lucky, that I was born where I was born and that I was able to live outstandingly well, go to school, get a university degree and so on.
But let me get on with Goa: my first impression: very touristy, reminded me kinda of the Canary Islands. We met two girls at the airport and shared a taxi with them, which was awesome, cause we saved money. Amy’s feeling very sick today, so we just took some hotel for this night. It’s way too expensive (500 INR), for it’ll do for one night. We have our own bathroom and even a balcony. I can hear the waves from where I’m sitting right now. Tomorrow, we’ll find some other place. But actually right now I don’t know, how long I really wanna stay here… Maybe it’s gonna get less touristy when we go further up north.
So, let me tell you a little bit more about Mumbai: On our way
to the Bollywood film set we drove all around the city. Mumbai has around 23.000.000 people, 50% are living in slums. Actually the numbers are estimated to be a lot higher, counting all the illegal people in. Slums are illegally built houses and can go from actually having walls and a roof to just some plastic-covered piece of ground. It’s at the same time amazing and shocking when you drive through there. Amazing, because the people living there don’t seem to mind their situation and seem to be quite happy, shocking, cause for us, it’s unthinkable to live like that. I tried to take pictures, but they don’t do it justice. Another amazing thing is that the people just accept their situation as it is, there are very little riots or anything. Most of them are Hindus and they strongly believe that they just had a bad karma in their past life, so they need to do better in this life. More and more I realize how little I really need to live well. I don’t need all my clothes, and all the stuff I took here. I decided, to give some of it away. My backpack’s ridiculously heavy, anyways.
And now, I’m gonna go to bed. I’m tired and exhausted and I’m being eaten up by mosquitoes.

Friday, Oct 23rd - Anjuna, Goa
So, despite of my first no-so-good impression, I ended up staying here. More by accident we found an awesome place to stay, without bedbugs! The place belongs to the Shore bar (you might even find that on Google) and is about the oldest place around. It has been family-owned since 1970 and is run by a very nice Englishman and his son. We sleep somewhere in the back, after you walked through a pretty garden. The room is huge, light and quiet. They have 9 dogs and 3 cats living here, one of which is pregnant. I love to finally be able to cuddle animals without being afraid of catching rabies. They have a very cool, open bar here. So Amy and I have pretty much been hanging out here all the time, watching people come and go. Right now, I’m sitting on an elevated part of the floor, cushions all around me, watching the waves crashing at the shore. Life can be so hard
So pretty much all I’ve
been doing for the past day is reading this book called “eat, pray, love” by Elizabeth Gilbert. It’s just one of the best books I’ve read in a while. I LOVE this book and just can’t put it down. If you haven’t read it, read it! Have no idea, what the title translates to in German, though! Oh, yes, I did something yesterday: I got a Wax. I’m not gonna get into detail, just one advice: DON’T EVER GET YOUR ARMPITTS WAXED!!! Well, I guess, sometimes you mus experience pain to learn. Tonight there’s supposed to be a really good party somewhere. Guess what they play here: Electro!!! Didn’t really expect that, but I as you guy might know, I like it, so I’m excited. Amy’s feeling worse today and is staying in bed right now, so I doubt, she’ll come.
I can totally understand now, why people might get stuck here. It’s just a very laid-back life, very cheap and everyone basically smokes a lot of dope. I’m not gonna stay longer than next Wednesday, I think. Right now I’m thinking about postponing my flight date to Melbourne. Everything in India just takes forever, and there is no
point in rushing from place to place.
But for now, I’m just gonna stay here and enjoy the shade and the sound of the waves and read my book! I’m sending warm, Indian sun to all of you!
