Random Concert
Upon arriving in Kalkota we stumbled across a concert going on of traditional Indian music...so heres a pic. Hello Everybody!
At present we are in Bodhgaya which is the small farm town where Buddha achieved enlightenment. For such a small area it has so many temples/monastarys donated by buddhist countries. But first i must finish Kalkota:
On the last couple of days we just chilled out around the city enjoying (or not enjoying in my case) the surroundings and atmosphere. We had purchased our train tickets at a small travel agents and were sceptical as to whether we were going to get them. We went there and they said the classic phrase of 'come back tomorro'....just before the train was departing. We found a pretty disgusting place to stay at that was run by the grumpiest 16 year old in the world who just agreed to everything we said. So on the last day we slowly got out of bed and made our way down to the street where all the tourists are. We saw a food stall where many other travel people were eating and laughing. So we sat down and enjoyed having a little rest. We soon realised that the stall was run by one man and 3 deaf young men (they wrote down that they
Super Pub Bar
Ali sat within the Super Pub Bar enjoying a delightfull Kingfisher were 25). Two of the deaf guys had an apparent obsesion with japanese girls, this was justified by pictures all over the stall and asking any oriental girl for a kiss. Also there manarisms when deeling with people was halarious, as they were deaf everything was over exagerated. After practically being forced to laugh i felt that i was mabye getting a little hungry. So after well over 24 hours of not eating i had some egg fried rice which went down nicely. So from this we did manage to get our train tickets and made our way to the station.
The train station was a monster of a place. So many people rushing around this dirty sweaty place where homeless people were grabbing at our legs. The train itself was also a monster! Soooooo long! But we had paid for 3 ac (3rd class with aircon) and so found our way to the quieter part of the train. The area in which we staid was basically 8 beds stacked up like a bunkbed, 3 beds parallel to 3 and then 2 more beds at the end of that row. Also the air was clean and the people we
The Bodhi Tree
This is where Buddha himself sat under and achieved enlightenment. Unfortunately we did not experience the same fate. were near respectable. So we set ourselfs ready for the 9 hour journey ahead of us. The ride was halariously dodgy...the train just rocked from side to side and bumped around as if it was going to wave goodbye to the tracked. But to be honest it was the most comfortable i have been this whole trip. And so i went straight to sleep with a smile.
As we arrived at Gaya station we were swarmed with people offering us a ride to bohggaya. All on the little tuk tuks. For me this was highly anoying as we had just woken up and it was 5:30 in the morning. But we eventually settled a deal and made the fast and furious country journey of 25 mins into this holy of places. As we arrived so early no hotels were open so we explored a bit and eventually found a very nice place to stay. I was so tired so i didnt care about the price...we got a tv and a balcony and a toilet that worked-perfect. Upon entering we just went straight to sleep. As we woke up i felt terrible, ran straight to the toilet and did what
Monastery
This is where Ali and i accomodated ourselfs...amongst the monks and a random little german girl who lived with them...like and Indian mogli. is expected of someone in india.
But then it got worse, i let ali go explore as i curled up into bed. Within minutes i had my head in the toilet chucking up bile. Again at this point i had not eaten for atleast 24 hours. I am just not hungry here and its getting me down and depressed. But anyway, when ali came back he convinced me to get up and walk around. And to be honest this helped alot! I forgot all about how much i wanted to go home as we slowly walked around the temples. They are so beautiful and expencive looking, it makes you wonder how they let so many people be so poor and starving. The main temple is the Mahabohdi which contains the Bohdi tree where buddha actually achieved his enlightenment. So we can benith the tree and tried to be calm. Eventually a boy with a marvalous stutter came up and began talking. After asking the usuall questions (how old are you? how much does your father earn?) he began to beg us to take him to england so he can work. We told him that was not something we could do...he
The Garden of the Monastery
This is what we did...read in the garden while this dog (he's not dead) would try and chew up our books. got quite upset. Anyway...in the evening we attended a Zen Medidation class at the japanese Temple. This relaxed me so much and made me think that mabye my time here isnt so bad. Last night we watched tv but got too tired and fell asleep at about 9!...hahah...also don't worry mum, i had 2 meals yesterday! although we were served coke that was over a year out of date! I was horrified! Today we checked into the Bhutan Monastry guesthouse which has provided us with a spacious but highly simple room situated in a lush garden. Tomorro we are taking another train to Varannasi.
Am still extremely homesick and would love to come home! But i can't. So....Until next time!
