Hong Kong JULY 3RD
Well I fell asleep at about 2am this morning. That wasn’t my plan I was trying to stay awake all night so that I could sleep on the plane to Hong Kong but it didn’t work out that way.
After the 3-4 hour flight we made it to Hong Kong where we exchanged currency, met up with some students and just stared in awe at the blue sky we haven’t seen in about a week followed by the 45 minute car drive through beautiful HONG KONG Island (which I took nice videos of) .
From what I can gather Hong Kong is COMPLETELY different from Beijing in almost every way! From language, to weather, to government, to driving, to food, to terrain, even cleanliness. For example people drive on the opposite side of the road, which I still can’t get over. I can see the sky which I'm starting to get used to again! Hong Kong has BEAUTIFUL views because most of the city is built on mountainous terrain or other high places, for example the Hong Kong institute we’re staying at is built on the side of a mountain with an incredible view.I posted some of
these pictures on this blog. Today we had a tour of the university to see where our classes will be tomorrow. Then after that we went shopping out in the suburbia of Hong Kong (which was still extremely metropolitan) I feel like we really don’t stick out here in Hong Kong because people don’t want to stop and take our photo, like they do in Beijing, so they must be used to foreigners. Prices are mega expensive here in comparison to the mainland, but at least I can find a regular toilet I don't have to squat in.
One thing I've noticed actually, is the sense of fashion changed slightly from Beijing to here. I think the people dress a little bit more....EDGY..? I suppose edgy is the right word. The clothes sold at the stores is less casual and common and more fashionable ans flashy. For example some of the clothes you saw you could have seen at a hot topic in the USA, like colorful neon sneakers or converse, strategically ripped shirts and pants. high top shoes, high-heeled shoes, high-soled shoes (lots of shoes with lifts or heels in them, I guess the people here are more obsessed
with being tall than the people of Beijing were)
Quite a few people speak English around here...or at least more people here do than in Beijing. The weather is hot as hell though, I mean jesus! It's like freaking Florida up in this piece! But at least there's A.C. in every building...unlike in Beijing. OH!! the other beautiful thing about about Hong Kong is ....dun dun du~un!! FACEBOOK!! YES! we have all internet websites here! Fully accessible! Thank God! What else... it's cleaner here in Hk than Beijing... and I met Sunnie today! My new Bf! She likes b2st just like me and I was like "YE~~~S!" So happy to find kpop lovers in Asia because I always felt like I was in the minority when I was in the states. (very hard to find people not obsessed with Japanese media like: anime, food, music, dramas, movies, etc.)
