the beauty that is Mirador Mansions..
Hello from Hong Kong! Well, actually I lie when I say that as this post is long overdue and we are not actually in Hong Kong anymore...haha, oops.

Our stay in Hong Kong was 5 days only (we were there on an extended layover on our way from Vietnam to Costa Rica (where i am now and just had the most insane day filled with white water rafting...but more on that in the next blog!) but we still mananged to do quite a lot, as Hong Kong itself is not that big. Unfortunatley, Kristen was not feeling too well when we first arrived so our first few days were a little quiter, but like I just said, we still managed to do quite a bit!

Hong Kong is a series of islands, and we stayed on Kowloon at a place called Mirador mansions. Do not be fooled by that name though - there was nothing glamorous or rich about these mansions! Basically, in Kowloon, there are 2 buildings that are geared at backpackers - Chungking Mansions and Mirador mansions. When we got off our shuttle bus from the airport and were pointed in the direction of Mirador, I thought

the craziness that is Hong Kong...
to myself "This can not be right - that building is dilapitated and decrepit and looks like it is condemned!" Sure enough though..that was it, haha. These "mansions" are huge buildings that are filled with different guesthouses and businesses..we made Cosmic guesthouse our home, where our little single beds were lined up single file because of the lack of space! (note to anyone travelling to Hong Kong - accomodation, even in decrepid delapitated buildings is not cheap! that room ran us about $40 a night, compared to the $15 we were paying in Vietnam to basically stay in a palace..and the $4 it cost us in Thailand to rent out our own bungalow by the beach).

Ok, so the order of things we did in Hong Kong is a little hazy as it was a while ago and this trip has been such a whirlwind of awesomeness, but we headed over to Hong Kong island one day (yes, we saw the tallest building in Hong Kong where part of the Dark Night was filmed!), we took a sky car up to see Big Buddah, which was incredible, we took a tram up to see Victoria Peak, which literally brought

The IFC building
us on top of Hong Kong with breaktaking views (the tram itself was a little frightening - the incline is so steep that the buildings seem to be at a 45 degree angle!) and of course we shopped...Kristen and I left no market untouched...we hit the Jade Market, the Temple Street night market and of course...the ladies market! My favorite purchases were two designer bags (Dolce and Gabanna and Chloe, not fake of course...haha) for about $60! holla!

After a trip to the post office to ship home our goods..(hopefully in 2 months time a package from Hong Kong will be at my doorstep) we were off to catch our 13 hour flight to Los Angeles..a 5 hour layover in LAX and then another 4 hour flight brought us to San Jose, Costa Rica, where the next travel blog shall resume...

Stay tuned!

Love Jenn
