Edit Blog Post
Well hello and welcome to Hong Kong!
(The publication of this and Japan and Thailands Islands have been delayed due to the server crashing and losing most of our work. We have re-done everything so feel free to start at the beginning and read through, thanks for being patient with us and hop you enjoy the blog!!!)
I'm gonna be honest with youse. We planned to do loads of stuff over the week, like the peak walk, Junk boat trip in the bay, maybe bimble down to Happy Valley race course and stuff. What we actually did was sleep as much as possible, and watch the entire first series of 'heroes' on dvd (it cost me pennies!). But we did manage to catch up on the blog! Japan is nearly done, as i write this, so we are getting there. Hope your still enjoying all this and we aren't boring you!!! Anyway Hong Kong's not to bad; thats probably cos it was British till 1997. We origionally got HK after the Spice wars and leased it for 100 years. So we made it what it is today. Its basically a huge built up, neon lit city. It has everything
Victorious
As the victorious reds leave the pitch you can see the new boy at the front of the pic. a western city has, but with a chinese spin on things. A lot of people here can understand English, they speak Cantonese, and can't understand anyone from mainland China as they speak Mandarin. So we left a bit of an imprint. There are too many people here it is very crowded, and neither of us could live here, but its cool to visit, and the HK Liverpool supporters club is quite big and very active! I actually found a lot of the people rude, selfish and self centered! They push you out of their way and think nothing of cutting you up in cars or on foot! They never apologise (EVER) and if your a girl, low cut tops are out. Thats because the men here will blatantly stare down your top if your alone. If your with a man they will if they think he isn't looking. Ignorant if you ask me! Claire reckons they aren't used to low cut tops, i pointed out the girlie bars, beach bikinis and clubbers! They just think they can do it anyway!! (FROM CLAIRE- western girls boobs are also bigger than Chinese girls!). Anyway moaning aside.... the city is set against a
Celebration
Me an Claire were pissed but happy, good pre-season game! backdrop of lush woodland and large hills. on one side, and deep blue waters on the other. It has beaches, Clubs and most importantly English Pubs - baked beans and fry ups!!! I know this sounds sad, but as our Chris will vouch for, when your away you miss some simple things from home, you can get them here!
Hong Kong looks great on photo's, but the reality is different. Everywhere you walk is crowded, Constantly, at all hours of the day and night. You never get any space!! Also in the city you are constantly getting dripped on by leaky air-con units! This is not a cheap place to visit either. The prices are comparable with europe, rather than China! The only deals for shopaholics are in Electronics and computer software and hardware. I got a 160gb ext.harddrive for about 50 quid! There are no deals on clothes (or shoes Rosy !), and no deals on food unless you eat off the stalls in the street and i wasn't that poor, or desperate! One shining light in this place is the outback steak house on Kowloon side next to the metro exit! The steak we had in there was
Claire
Claire pissed and singing the Fields of anfield road! huge and the best i have ever had, easily on a par if not better than in Argentina!!! Highly recommended. Whilst we were here it was just to hot! The amusement park was to crowded to enjoy (it makes Alton towers on school trip look positively empty in comparison). I suppose some of you will still want to go though, so all i can say is just do a coupla days. Go see the big Buddha and stroll around Kowloon, eat at the Outback Steak House and rest. Then move on. HK is a major hub and you can get anywhere from here relatively cheaply. Because this entry is a bit dour i'll keep it short and end on a high note! We got to see the reds in pre-season in the Asia cup. We got to see Nando's first game in a red shirt, we got to rest and catch up on the blog, and we watched Heroes, all in all we passed the week the way we wanted, and look forward to Thailand........................
