The beautiful Tai Wan Hotel
Can't describe enough how much love this room... nearly as much as food...no no, lets not be silly! Got up early today to trek back over to Kowloon. Journey wasn't bad because we knew where we were going...hoping to stay on the 3rd flooor hostel, instead of Ocean View. It's called Tai Wan Hotel and luckily they had room! It was a jawdropper when we saw the room...not an Ocean View jaw dropper (a.k.a. Kill me now) but a 'Oh my god thank you; must have done something good in the past life' jaw dropper. Is just like a mini (very mini) hotel suite - little bedside lamps and everything!
Riding on euphoric wave of happiness, trotted off to catch tube to Lantau Island. Had more bread from bakery for breakfast (except mine turned out to be a donut filled with jam...totally tasty, but not appropriate for breakfast I don't suppose. Bye bye weight loss and hello weight gain!) Also did somthing really stupid here - makes me mad to even write it! Went to bank to get money out, got card, but forgot money. Realised nearly straight away, but when went back, was a lady on my machine who said she hadn't seen money - completely lying! So, there went my $300, along with my weight loss!
Cable Car ride
Can't even look at this photo for too long. Anyway, got ferry and tube to Lantau Island to see big Buddha and ride on cable cars. Got scammed a bit with ticket because didn't which one we needed so bought most expensive one with 2 shows. Did want to walk back from Buddha, but lady said was a 3 hr mountain walk...thought it best to dodge that one in my gold flip flops!
Was really nervous for cable cars. They went through & over mountains and over water, all of which required being high up in air - and for 20 minutes! Was a great view, but not good for me. Got really sick feeling, especially when it stopped and left us hanging in mid-air! Not good! Scuttled off when it stopped and went to find Buddha.
Buddha was ace! He is the tallest Buddha in the world and really cute all at the same time. Took plenty of pics and walked around him. Then headed for Po Lin Monastery. Good temple and got to see lots of people praying to big Buddha outside and to mini buddha's inside. Then we headed alon the Wisdom path. It is a 70km trail around mountains and back -
Cable car 2
Took this while I was still functioning didn't know how far these gold flippers would carry me, but I knew it wasn't that far! On route we saw the Heart Sutra = one of worlds best known prayers written onwooden pillars and set ion a figure of 8; looked really good with all scenery around.
Did a bit more of the 70km trek (like 1km of it) and turned back. Just looked so stupid with denim shorts, silk vest top and gold flippers hiking around a mountain! Glad we did part of it though, really good views! Met some girls from UK on way back who were also travelling for 8 months and heading to Bangkok next. They had proper sandals on though...the Jesus sandal kind...I don't think me and Deb are quite there yet - will stick to the trusty gold!
When we got back, had the worlds worst lunch ever...ever ever ever! Tried to save money so got sandwich and "crisps" from 7 eleven! Sandwich was complete;y dry and v.suspicious looking ham! Crisps turned out to be actual pieces of pork rolled in who knows what, but definately made from pigs trotters! (which bye the way is actually on menu's out here!)
The BIG BUDDHA
Tallest Buddha in world apparently...pretty cool guy. After disgusting lunch, went to watch shows that had been scammed into paying extra for. One was about Buddha. Really interesting story (told in cartoon form, which is always a winner!) About rich prince who felt something missing in his life so went on world quest to find inner peace. His original name was Sidarthur (although might be spelt wrong) so not quite sure where Buddha came from? Anyway, entertaining and educational - that is my bit of learning for this trip!
Then we had top go and see the "Monkey show" since we had paid for it. Turned out to be another cartoon...just without the education. Deb lost her bag at this point (or realised she had), so we both did something stupid that day! She managed to find her bag though, so not too bad.
Had to get cable car back - was even worse than journey there because was windy. So, not only 100's of metres up in air, but also cable car shaking side to side - close to panic attack, but somehow managed to avoid...think I was imagining cheescake! Went home then and finally managed to get a decnet nights sleep 😊

I wonder if that got rid of the pigs trotters?
