Ever since we started sharing an apartment together Destry and I had been talking about taking a trip to Hong Kong Disney so on May 12th after we finished work off we went.
We had a hotel booked and went straight there. We had decided to only spend one day at Disney and as there was a bus back to the Chinese border straight from Disney we chose the Sunday as Disney Day.
As we were having a fun filled weekend we spend the Saturday at Ocean Park, in Hong Kong which celebrated its 40th birthday this year and was also Hong Kong's first theme park. The park is split in to two sections, the Waterfront and the Summit. There is a 1.8km cable car and 1.3km funicular railway joining the two parts of the park. As well as being a theme park Ocean Park is also an important marine animal conservation, research and education centre.
After looking around the Aquarium we took the cable car to the Summit. Knowing Disney land doesn't have any rides that go upside down we took full advantage of the ones that did at Ocean Park. We went on a number of
different rides before entering the penguin enclosure. There were so many penguins and it was so nice to see them swimming and playing together. After the Penguins we saw Arctic Fox cubs and seals (not in the same enclosure). Then we went on more rides including the river raft which Destry got very wet on. The raft ride is part of the Rainforest zone and we went in there to help Destry dry off. There are over 1000 mammals, fish, birds and 70 species of insects.
We had pre booked fast pass tickets to use the peak tram so after having an ice cream and watching the crocodiles being fed we went on our way.
We used our fast pass tickets and were able to jump right to the front of the queue for the tram. I had told Destry how amazing the food at Bubba Gump was and once we reached the peak we ate there. Luckily there was no wait and we got a table by the window. We ordered far too much food but it was worth it, ribs, squid, prawns, fish and dessert. After we ate we went up to the Sky Terrace 420. It
was now dark so I was seeing the view at night time this time. Even though I preferred the view during the day it was still impressive at night.
The next day after check out we arrived at Disney. We had pre bought our tickets so skipping the queues we lined up and waited for the gates to open - we had purposely got there early. After having cake for breakfast we looked around a few shops before the rides opened. Destry trusted me to take him on the best rides so off we went. We did a number of rides before stopping for lunch: churros and ice cream. After going on more rides and another ice cream we looked around the shops again and then got the bus back to China.
When it comes to food Destry really is a bad influence on me but it was a great weekend.
