Day two in HK. Walked down to the pier and took Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour. Rush hour was over and very few people were on the boat. On the water was a small boat and on the boat was a man with a net at the end of a long pole. He was scooping up debris from the water. What an idea! I know of a few bodies of water that could make use of this simple method of ridding quais of stinking garbage!
Once on the Kowloon side I went to the happy room at the golden arches. I must call these people. Usually the happy rooms at the arches are always very clean. Breakfast became an egg mcmuffin and coffee. The most important goal for today was to secure a ticket for the Sunday matinee of the dance presentation Storm Cloud. It is an interpretation of comic book artist Ma Wing-shing. I am most anxious to experience this performance. The HK Cultural Centre is a huge box. Had to ask someone to find the entrance. The look improves once inside . My ticket came with a huge discount senior so that I will only be paying $180HKD for
an extremely good seat. once the ticket was safely in my pocket I did a tour of the ground floor of the Centre. Many very interesting posters are displayed advertising past and future happenings.
Across the street from the Centre can be found the huge Harbour Mall all decked out for Christmas. So may shops, such lovely choices, such astronomical prices. I saw a Kelly bag for $118,000.00HKD divided by 6.7 = . And that was reduced. Had to get out of the place ... too much perfume, too many people, too much noise and nothing I wanted or could afford if I did find it.
Out on the streetagin I wandered thru a back alley wheremany were standing outside back enterances smoking. Made my way thru a hallway that advertised coming movies and exited again to anothe shishi street. No getting away from Tiffany's, Gucci et al. But it must be said that Tiffany's did a fantastic job decoratingtheir complex of stores. A holiday wonderland with no limit on the spending ... looks like.
The wander continued. Went into the YMCA lookingfor the library and the toilet. Found the library closed and the toilet very clean.
In the Y also found a restaurant cafe and had some lunch. The chowder was as bad if not worse than the starch soup at Tim Hortons ... this one served with invisible seafood! The sandwich was good but the kitchen had run out of avocado.
Out on the street again I paid a visit to THe Peninsular, a very fine hotel. Took a look around the foyer and saw afternoon teabeing served in silver pots. This place must be a seven star!
THe Art Museum was closed this Tuesday so I began the walk back to the wharf. Misdirecting myself, the Intercontinental was reached, the toilet used and the decicion made return here for lunch when I visit the Art Gallery on Sunday before or after the dance performance.
Since it was not yet late in the day before returning to the HK side I walked the Promenade, took pics of the strange and wonderful and admired the skyline thru everpresent haze.
What a day of doing nothing much but enjoying the non-structure of the whole thing. Once back at the hotel I parkedmyself in the loby and sat on a real chair (non in the room)
used a box for a footstool and worked on my lovely lovely lovely new ASUS Notebook. Had to go to the Kowloon Fortress shop to get them to helpme figure out how to download my pics. The battery had also spent itself ... maybe charging the mobile via the notebook was not such a good idea ... :-( Have been forced to buy a HK plug! none provided in this most exclusive hotel room I am occupying. The water is hot, the bed comfy, the toilet flushes well and toilet paper is included. Also has a kettle for boiling water and a television with at least 8 chanels two english but no BBC or CNN. At the end of busy days sleep comes too quickly to watch too much.... but I must confess Wde. and Thurs. at midnite I did watch Downton Abby ... repeat of 3&4 ... Oh well.....
There are twelve pics included in this blog. :-)
