I am now sitting on the flight to Manila, Philippines. We have had two hectic days in Hong Kong. We arrived on Monday afternoon and went straight to the Hotel. After checking in we took a taxi down town and walked the Star walk and saw the Hong Kong skyline very impressive. And then we went for some dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant was we had a lovely vegetable curry. After dinner we were really tired and just went back to the hotel and went to bed.

Tuesday, I woke up at 4am and couldn’t sleep so read for a bit and finally fell asleep around 6am. The alarm went off 7am. Up and out to see Hong Kong Island. We went on a guided tour that covered the Hong Kong Island so first we went to the Peak which gives a fantastic view of Hong Kong and the business district. The weather hasn’t been great the last few days in Hong Kong and it was very cloudy for the majority of our stay which was a shame because I think that it would have been a lovely view from the Peak if the sky had been clear. Anyway it

didn’t rain much so I am happy. We also went in to see a Jewellery factory were we got to see how they with gold and different stones. Apparently Hong Kong is the 2nd biggest jewellery manufacturer in the world.

I the afternoon we met up with Edward who showed us around where he lives and then we took the underground to Shatin which is the city where he grew up. We went to have a proper Chinese dinner with Edward and his brother Ken. Edwards parents dropped by to say hello. They were very nice. At the end of the evening we met up with Katrina, Edwards’s fiancée.

I think that I expected Hong Kong to be very flashy and very modern and that is probably why I feel a bit disappointed in a way. But of course every city has its own area which has been run down. However the whole experience of our short stop in Hong Kong was great and very interesting as I have got a greater understanding of the British involvement over the years and the relationship Hong Kong has to China today. After the tour on Tuesday morning I felt that I had “seen it all” however after meeting Edward I realise that we only covered a small part and it would be great to come back and go hiking and visit other villages and cities outside of Hong Kong central.
