Well we had finally made it to Hong Kong after a 13hour plane ride and one hour bus adventure (crazy drivers). Sarah and I had both insisted on bringing our whole wardrobe, which backfired on us as we struggled to walk two miles with 4 suitcases, a carry-on and a purse through a saturated mob of people. By some kind of miracle we made it to Hung Hom. Starving we made our way to the closest restaurant, Outback and enjoyed ourselves a nice steak and a Coke Light. When the bill came, to our surprise the soda was five american dollars and the refills were not free. The next few days we slowly got acquainted with our surroundings. Grocery shopping was difficult because no one spoke english and everything was written in cantonese. I met my host family who was very nice. They insisted on me eating their 'special' food which turned out to be cow anus and snake eggs. I don't recommend it. After lunch they took me to the Mong Kok market which was packed with people, fresh fruit and flowers, and a dream for shopoholics. The following day, Sarah and I took the ferry to Hong Kong Island
Hong Kong Island
Looking at Hong Kong Island from the ferry ( Hong Kong is divided into four districts: Hong Kong island, Kowloon(where I am), the new territories, and the outer lying islands). It seemed a lot like New York City with names such as Prada, Armani, LV, and Burberry. It wasn't as diversified as Kowloon was. It seemed like a pretty standard city. We went on a Sunday, which happens to be Maids' Day. All the maids in the city have picnics everywhere; the covered walkway, the gardens, anywhere and everywhere you looked there were maids. While walking we ran into Stanley market which was filled with fresh vegies, fruits, flowers and buttons( oh yes i said buttons). Anyway... since then school has started. People are so rude in class. They walk in when they feel like it and whisper amongst themselves, which it quite annoying. This weekend a bunch of the exchange students are planning a trip to the island and i have plans with my host family to have dinner.

Katie, whoa. It sounds like you are having some adventures and seeing some pretty awesome things. I love the picture of the water garden! How beautiful... It must be pretty hard to be surrounded by an unfamiliar language all the time, and girl, I am really really sorry you had to eat cow anus (BAHAHAHAHA!!!) but hey! The stories! They're priceless :) Anyway, we love you and are glad you are out there living life! I am looking forward to your next entry! Love, ~Megan
