Feb 23/24 2008

Long day 1 and 2...Flights are all on time etc bags are initially checked thru all the way to Ho Chi Minh City and that concerns us as are overnighting in Hong Kong. YVR becomes a little problematic for 2 smokers as we follow the signs from domestic arrivals to the international terminal only to discover we are now on the "secure" side of the airport. After we discover the "smoking" rooms were suspended on Jan 18th things become a tad "frosty" as they wont let us back out without clearing Canada customs etc which essentially turns a 14.5 hr flight into a 16.5 hour flight.

Flight to HK is fine..14.5 hrs of 2 smokers dying to get out of the lil metal tube! Flight arrives in HK about 5 min early and we breeze thru immigration in minutes and then wait...and wait..for luggage. M's bag finally arrives..sans all tags except thankfully the Air Canada tag..ALAS my suitcase does not show up.

Spend some testy time filing a lost luggage report etc then finally get out for a cigarette. We get to the hotel @ 11:30 HK time to discover that we need to get the 5:10 am airport shuttle the next morning ..uggh! The good news is the bar is still open as I am just a little bit "testy" by now. Couple of beers and cigarettes later and then we get a message saying they have located my "errant" suitcase.

YAYYY...

We finally get to bed @ 1am with a wake up call for 4:15.

Monday morning Feb 25th

Happy Birthday Rod!!!!!!

We are both a lil sleep deprived but all is well. Suitcase is retrieved and we are sitting in the boarding area at Honk Kong airport waiting to board our Vietnam Airlines flight to HCM City (formerly Saigon). 3 hr flight to Saigton then a 4 hr car ride to Can Tho so another long day..

No pics yet as its been dark since we arrived.

Will add some photo's next time we update.

Days 1 & 2
Sounds like a loonnnggg first couple of days. It is 7:30 pm here on Sunday, Feb 24. It's a little weird feeling like I've missed your birthday when it hasn't happened here yet. Glad I don't smoke! Have fun!
