Traditional Georgian Winery

Georgian wine is aged in large clay amphorae known as qvevri buried in the earth. They've been making wine in Georgia for over 8,000 years and wine may well have been invented here.

Birthday Buffalo Yogurt

B at roadide stop eating buffalo yogurt on his birthday - does it get much better than that??

At one of the inns we stayed at the wonderful owner allowed me to take her photo as she was preparing our meal

Polish Group at Wine Cellar

This lovely and fun group of Polish women sang a traditional Polish birthday song to B. They also knew his theatrical family in Poland and wanted to have their photo taken with him.

Shumi Vineyard

This enjoyable young lady took us through the wines and chatted with us for nearly an hour - the people of Georgia were on the whole delightful

Wine Country

We visited half a dozen wineries one afternoon and had lunch at this one. As with vineyards around the world, this one was in a beautiful part of the country, had amazing food and great wine

On the Road in Armenia

Tbilisi to Yerevan, Armenia we stopped for lunch at a roadside cafe. I think I got sick here because that night in Yerevan I became violently sick. On the sign: top is Armenian script, then English and then Russian

I likely got sick eating the raw veggies on the left - but they were soooo good. The green bottle holds a local drink make from tarragon - interesting(?)

Lake Sevan is HUGE

Holy Mother of God Catholic Church

The little chapel dates to 1264. A basilica was built over the chapel in 1693. The basilica was demolished under Soviet rule and they round the 13th century chapel, which was preserved. After Soviet rule ended, the big church around the chapel was built.

Yerevan, Armenia

A very modern capital city with pedestrian streets, underground shopping malls - a very walkable, enjoyable city
