This morning we had breakfast at McDonald's as we were catching a train soon than will take 1 hour to get there, so we had a quick bite then we were off to the subway. Found the correct train, bought our tickets at 12 RMB about $2.40 AUD then down to the train. The train already was absolutely packed already, squeezing room only, although I was hoping for a seat, I had no chance of this until about half way!! Train is the simplest way for everyone to get around, very convenient. We spent the day with some friends, lunch was at a very nice restaurant and then they took us shopping too, on a mission to find these copy Nike shoes for Nikki, even 60 miles away from Shanghai, they are still dear. We were dropped back to the train station, we decided we would be a bit adventurous and get off halfway, look around the area, the locals know where everything is but probably a lot is behind doors we never even got to see. We bought a couple of things here, then back on the train, this time to get off at the Pedestrian Mall to
head back to the hotel. We contacted our Adelaide friends, then we took them on an adventure for dinner as they were staying for a few days more and we wanted to show them how easy it was to travel. The station we started at was the People's Square and although we only needed one stop, we walked underground for a fair way before even getting on the train. Our friends from Singapore had told us about this really nice Dim Sum place so this is why we came this way. Again the train was packed, we laughed and enjoyed our one station trip. Once off the train, we found exit 3, then once at street level, ummmm, which way now?? We asked someone where this restaurant was, level 4 in a building tucked away from view, who would have thought to put a restaurant there?? Well there was about 6 restaurants on this level, we found the entrance and because it was already 9.15pm, some of the staff looked like they didn't want us to come in, but all we had to do was finish our meal before 10pm. That was fine we thought until we looked at the
menu and it was all in Chinese!! We laughed as were really could only go by the pictures, but behind us on another table, there was a Chinese man that spoke English and he was able to help us with what to order!! By now, it was just after 9.30pm so as soon as our food arrived we had to shovel it in. When our meals came out, we had 2 fried rice, large, Clint's spicy beef meal and mine was Dim Sums but somehow, 2 servings of that as well!!! We had enough food here to feed 4 extra people!!
In between eating, we had many laughs about what we thought the restaurant staff were saying about us in Chinese, we finished what we could before 10pm and made one of the staff take multiple photos on all of our phones!!
Back to the train where we made our friends purchase the tickets by themselves and show us which train to catch, which was correct only to get a train that even more crowded than before, it's something that when you live in quiet little Adelaide, this is something you have to experience!!
We walked along the pedestrian mall back to
the hotel, we had to finish packing our bags as we were leaving ultra early again for the Fast Train to Ningbo. Another late night but a great day!!!
