It was so hot in our rooms that no one slept well at all. At one point I wet my sarong and lay it on me to cool down. I went to see the boys to show them the wallet and contents and to discuss what to do with it. Stuart said to give it to charity, Jim said it was up to me and Nitzan and Bhavisha weren't really sure what to do with it. I nipped out to see if the bank was open (the one on the credit cards) but it was too early and I couldn't find a policeman to hand it in to. So I had to keep hold of it. We had to leave at 8.30am to catch the bus to the ferry terminal and the hydrofoil bs k to Hong Kong.
The bus was packed but the driver kept letting people on as others got off and kept shouting to move down the bus, he sounded so angry lol. At the ferry terminal we had to go through the usual bag scans and immigration checks leaving Macau and getting back in to Hong Kong. The hydrofoil drip took about an hour
and then we headed back to the Yes Inn hostel where we said goodbye to Jim. Get couldn't stay as he had to bet back to Shanghai to pick up the next group.
We checked in to the hostel but couldn't get into our rooms until 2pm. Bhavisha and I were in an all female 6 bed dorm and the boys were in a larger male/female dorm. Whilst waiting I sent an email to the casino to ask if anyone had enquired about the missing wallet, they replied later to say they hadn't. I then nipped to the bank up the road to see if I could hand it in to them but they advised I would need to hand it into the police and gave me a map to show me which metro stop to get off at and where the police station was.
Finally we got into our rooms and I immediately crashed for a couple of hours. Later we all met up for food and headed to the Times Square shopping, food and cinema complex. Bhavisha opted for pizza express butvstuart, Nitzan and I went to a restaurant on a different
floor which did western and Asian food. Afterwards we Stuart had decided he was going to go on the organised pub crawl, Bhavisha was going to do her own thing for a while and Nitzan offered to come with me to the police station to hand in the wallet.
The trip to the station wasn't too bad, a few stops on the tube, a quick ask redirections and piff, puff, puff we were there lol. We had to take a ticket and wait our turn until we were called. I told the young officer the story of how and where we had found it and he recorded all the details on the computer. I think there were about 10 credit cards and around £1200 equivalent in Hong Kong dollars. Now some of you are going to think I'm crazy for handing it in, or should have given it to charity, but my conscious would not let me and I wanted to do the right thing and at least try to get the wallet back to it's owner. The policeman seemed to think it belong to someone on the mainland, whether he meant China or Hong Kong I
don't know. I was asked to sign the report and given a copy. I was asked if I wanted the property if it want claimed after 3 months but I said no for 2 reasons - one I wouldn't be in the country and it would probably cost me £1200 to get to HK and secondly getting the money would just not have felt right so it would have gone to charity any way. I don't know what will happen to it if it's not claimed but I have done what I can and have a clear conscious :-)
When we got back to the hostel, after being slightly delayed as the tube broke down and there was a huge back log of people to clear, Bhavisha and Nitzan decided to go to the cinema to see Sex Tape, Stuart went out on the pub crawl and I went to bed early. However my plan to catch up on my sleep was thwarted by by fellow dorm mates who felt it acceptable to come in at all hours, go for showers, fettle around in lockers and bags, open and close zips and rustle carrier bags around, oh
and chat!!!!!! Grrrrr people are so rude. The next morning one of the noisy girls also thought it was acceptable to put the hair dryer on at 7.30am in the morning when we are all still asleep. Bhavisha and I were the only western girls in there so I will let you draw your own conclusions on noisy nationalities.
