Qingdao Brewery Museum
Model display of old production methods.Chinese wine has been around since ancient time and wine culture is very strong. Wine has been mentioned in historical records, poems and has been used for drinking, cooking, religious ceremonies etc…
White wine is more popular in North China while the south prefers yellow wine. Beer and grape wine are also produce in China now.
Some international renowned Chinese brands are MaoTai, Wuliangye and Qingdao beer. In addition, there are possibly thousands of other brands in China. Some of the wineries with good brands or long history have set up their own wine museums or allow factory visits.
This blog entry is a summary Chinese Wineries visited. 5 visited so far and they are:-
1) Wuliangye Winery
Location: Yibin city, Sichuan Province
The winery is open to public. The aroma of the liquor is in the air before you even enters the gate of the brewery.
The white wine they produce is one of the top brands in China. The wine evolve from wine production techniques over 2000 years in the Yibin area.
2) Qingdao Beer Brewery and Museum
Location: Qingdao city, Shangdong Province
This was the first beer brewery in China.
Qingdao Brewery
The beer can models at the top of the brewery building is one of the city's landmark. It was set up by the Germans when Qingdao was their colony. The beer factory was then taken over by the Japanese during WWII. Today, its called Qingdao Beer and exported.
The beer museum is also a first in China and showcases the brewery’s history and also the production process. There is also a counter that serve visitors the beer.
3) Zhangyu Wine Museum
Location: Yantai city, Shangdong Province
This is the first grape wine production company in China. It was built by an overseas Chinese in 1894 and has the largest underground wine cellar in Asia at the time. The original company premise is now houses the museum.
The museum shows the history of the company, their product range and has a wine tasting counter.
4) Qinghuawu Winery
Location: Wuyuan city, Jiangxi Province
This white wine is Jiangxi’s historic wine and one of 4 famous wine of the province. It has a small little museum and the winery is just behind it.
5) Laolongkuo Wine Museum
Location: Shenyang city, Liaoning Province
This white wine is a 300 years old brand started in 1662. The museum is the first one in Northeast
Qingdao Brewery
Beer storage area. China. It showcases the history of the brand and also the wine production process.
The wine production method is designated as one of China’s intangible World Heritage by UNESCO.
