I'm so tired. Travelling is really a hard work rather than rest - you have to get up early as you dont want to waste your day and then you have to cover big distances in order to see all the sights, you have to try everything, you have to see as much as possible, you have to experiece the more the better..... Your feet and body are aching at the end of the day and you are tired as a dog.... For instance today we had to be up at 5.30am in oder to take the tour to the Great Wall of China. Along with other 9 travelers we took a mini bus and after 3.5 hours of driving we got to Jinshaling (one of the entrances to the wall). There we covered 10 km distance to get to the next point - Simatai. The wall is impressive, I couldn't stop wondering how something so huge could have been built - there are only high mountains on the both sides...beautifull views as one can imagine. It's not that easy to walk there as the path goes up and down and at some points it's very steep, but we
managed it in less than 4 hours. There are so many Chinese people all the way trying to sell you books, T-shirts, water and walking along with you in a hope to make some money. Its a bit bothering and tiring. But it's like that everywhere - they offer you everything and are rather persistant, polite though, but it gets on your nerves anyways (well, at least on mine definately) and I try to wallk past as ignorant as I can.
Spitting on the streets is very common - it sounds aweful and looks unattractive as well, but I quess it's a part of their culture. To be honest everything is a bit dirty and messy here. A good example is our hostel which is very nice, but in the same time nobody has cleaned bathroom since we got here and I dont think it was done before either, when comparing with Mongolia where 5 ladys were scrubbing and washing and cleanig every part of the place...
And toilets here are also on a rather basic level - the hole in the ground (well, we are lucky that in our hostel we have a decent one). And I have never
Jinshaling
it gets really steep at points- the bricks on the left are at an absurd angle! seen so many public toilets as here. Just on our street there are like 10 or more of them, but it might be because they dont have toilets in their houses (our fellow traveler saw a lady in her pyjamas walkig out of the toilet at night), but thats just an assumption. And as its almost impossible to find somebody who speaks good english or any english at all, those questions are left unanswered. 😊
Nevertheless I do enjoy my stay here and sometimes it's hard to believe I have traveled that far and have a chance to witness Chinese culture, habits, food and life in general!!!
Tomorrow we are taking overnight train to X'ian. I'm really looking forward to see more of China, especially the less rural areas.
