University life
my room just after i arrived Shanghai second polytechnic university is a large campus with 10,000 students. My room overlooks the running track and basketball court and each student is encouraged to exercise each day as part of their studies, so students are seem ambling around the tracks at various times of the day. The basketball courts are busy most of the day with groups of students hanging out and shooting baskets.
There is also an indoor stadium with badminton, table tennis and an indoor swimming pool.
The dining halls are a short bike ride from our dormitory; a lot of the other Aussie staff eat out at the local restaurants and some of the street stalls which are with a whole lot of little market stall and shops on the perimeter of the campus.
I acquired a bike from a group of bikes in the basement that are lying unused. It’s off to the local bike fixer to give it a bit of TLC, its ride able but with no brakes and very limited ability to change directions, it’s a bit of a challenge to be safe on the bike paths which are shared with scooters and the odd trike.
Each room
University life
loads of furniture is self contained, equipped with telephone, bed, linen, desk and drawers, most anything you need to live comfortably. A staff common room and kitchen as well as laundry, make our eight-floor area quite an easy place to live. Sort of like a 3 start hotel with beds that are hard as rocks.
The weather is cool and getting colder, there was a frost overnight, but each room has reverse cycle air con, all in Chinese on the control, but easy to use.
I need to get to the expat supermarket to get some breakfast supplies, bought some stuff at the 24-7 store, giving the right amount of money is a challenge so I just handed over a note and hoped for the best.
