Why the blog? ( No! I am not too bored with my life nor jobless :P ) I have had a fair share of travelling experience in my past but for the first time I am sharing my experience with people not only because its fun and helps keep the memory alive of the places you have been to, experiences you have had, memories you have developed, people you have met but also because i realized that my experiences might prove to be beneficial for a few travellers out there waiting to explore the world and bask in its beauty, curious to know more and more with each passing second, accept anything and everything the world has to offer and delve deeper into the history, mystery, magnificence and secret carried by every square inch of this world we live in, be it a tiny humble village or an extravagant flourishing city. So, here begins my journey.. An account of my travelling stories, the apple of my life. 😊
So,where were we? Oh yes! Shanghai it is! :D 19th of June,2013, I arrive at Shanghai. A Friend of my father awaits us at the airport (which is very impressive, I must say). After exchanging greetings, we set off towards our hotel- Purple Mountain, a five star hotel located in a prime location in the new Shangai City ( yes I could afford a five star stay, my father is paying for it not me). After resting for a while ( i slept for almost 4 hours) and having the jet lag recovered in the comfortable rooms, we started for the first location to be covered as per our itinerary- The Oriental Pearl TV Tower, one of the most famous tourists spots of Shanghai. With excited children running here and there, old people resting in tree's shade, tour guides attending to the vast number of tourists coming from various far off places around the world and couples romancing their evening away amongst all the hustle bustle of this place, oriental TV tower was brimming with tourists in each and every corner as far as the eye could meet the location. The weather was pleasant and windy with a cool breeze in the air. My father's friend Eric, a sweet and friendly man, most importantly a localite, helped us get the entry passes ( it seems people at Shanghai don't give entry tickets to people who speak english no matter how much you beg them or try to explain them in every possible way using sign language). So we made our way into the Oriental Tower whose entry was adorned with beautiful pink and white flowers ( in front of which I was literally dragged by my parents for clicking pictures ). The entire passage to the entry was covered by Coca-Cola tents and vans ( no wonder they are getting rich day by day). As we entered the humongous building, we were led to an elevator through a beautiful corridor which was adorned with the traditional Chinese red lanterns and were guided by beautiful ladies dresses in red uniforms. The elevator took us all the way up to a structure known as the 'Sightseeing Floor' at a height of 863 ft. which had a spherical glass structure from where we could see the entire Shanghai City ( even Hong Kong and Taiwan if you use the paid binoculars! I didn't use them. They were paid.) The city looked beautiful gleaming in all its glory, showing off its tall, well built buildings, screaming out its stature of being one of the most important city in whole of Asia and the financial hub of China. Each and ever corner of Shanghai was lighted up, glittering and sparkling with yellow, golden, red and neon lights. The cars running speedily across the streets looked like tiny car toys from that height,Far off buildings looked smaller, people became almost invisible, and the beauty of the city grew more and more as we moved one step forward in the Space Module corridor. We could even see the beautiful Huangpu River with tiny colorful ferries riding on the water. We immediately knew what our next stop was going to be!
The river runs all along Shanghai separating new city from the old. Having spent considerable amount of time at the highest level of the Oriental Tower, we proceeded towards the highest level called the 'Space Module' standing at a height of 1,148 ft. (Your ears might pop as you fly ... Errrr.. Proceed towards the space module. Mine did. ), It was again a spherical structure lit by neon blue light and was again meant for taking a glance at the city at a much higher height ofcourse! The interiors were done in a way so as to provide a feel of cosmos with pale blue walls and tiny stars like lights on the ceiling and an astronaut hanging from the roof! ( I am happy I didn't take up astronomy at my university). Now the lower and the most interesting sphere was left. Known as the 'Lower Sphere', we proceeded towards it and were not aware of the surprise that had been kept in store for us. Standing about 100 ft. Above the ground, it was breath taking to see that the floor beneath our feet was made up of absolutely transparent glass! ( No, it LITERALLY was breath taking! ). I usually admire the rapid advancement of technology but technology does scare me at times when I am standing at a see-through glass floor approximately a hundred feet above the ground. So, after constant nagging from my mother to sit/stand/pose/dance and make all sorts of expressions so that she could click a few pics of mine ( I think I saw a few people giggling at me) we started for the last place left to see - the Space City. It was an entertainment zone with all sorts of video games which have machines with claw for catching the soft toys stuffed inside the machine ( which you will never catch in your entire life) , an indoor roller coaster ( highest indoor roller coaster in the world) and a multi-dimensional movie theatre and a snacks counter.
We were too tired for any those and had a ferry to catch within 20 minutes, so we skipped the entertainment part and headed towards the pier.
So that is it for now.. Will share my experience tomorrow at 'The Merry Ferry'.
