Matt Lighting the crackers
He was using a lit cigarette to light the crackers Geo: 32.05, 118.78
We have been invited our drivers son's 1st birthday, Bruce.
Their surname is Li, so his name is Bruce Li.
He is so cute. He was dressed in a traditional outfit.
White with gold trim and with split pants.
If you don't know what split pants are they are trousers that have the crutch open.
This is so the child can go to the toilet where ever and when ever they need to.
When we arrived the fire crackers start. Matthew has been given the honor of setting them off. 1st they give him a lighter. There is a pause. They then take the lighter from him and replace it with a light cigarette. Matthew didn't want to take it. He was trying to tell them that he doesn't smoke, but they had given it to him so he could light the fire crackers easier. OK. It did seem a little odd giving a 15 year old a light cigarette.... But we are in CHINA.
The fire crackers are lit. It is still day light so all you hear is the loud bang and then watch all of the debris falling from the sky. The crackers are used to ward

Moving quickly before they start to explode off bad spirits. The boxes are quite big about 30cm x 30cm square. There are a series of little pockets and each pocket explodes and it throws another cracker into the sky and then that too explodes. Each pocket makes to very loud noise.
So there about 64 pockets, so that's about 128 bangs per box. There where 3 large boxes and 3 smaller boxes so all in all about 500 bangs in about 3 minutes. Yer that sounds perfect.
We then get rushed up inside while the last box was finishing.
All of the family were in the main restaurant. Parents, brothers, sisters, aunties, uncles, cousins and the family in law. We where then ushered into a private room that was air conditioned along with the parents and brother and sister. So it felt like we where the privileged few. It was a huge round table with food already on the table. Meats, other meats, some veggies and some other stuff I had no IDEA. We where told where to sit. The men together because they where going to drink alcohol. The Chinese call it white rice wine but it is so strong like grappa, a very strong spirit and
you drink it straight. No ice or water. I tried some. It was good but very, very, very, very, strong. Every time someone raised their glass and said "Campai" everyone would have to raise their glass and drink. I kept to my orange juice. The four men (Luca, Li and his father and father in law) drank 3 bottles of it. About 4 full glass each of it.....
The food just kept coming. Cold Duck and Duck in soup, Fish, Beef, Mushrooms, Turtle, Green Vegetables, Beef and vegetables, Chicken, Prawns, Dove, Beans and Watermelon. It just kept on coming. There was so much food left over.
We defiantly had a great time trying to communicate with his family. They kept trying to force feed me.... I tried the TURTLE. Serena wouldn't talk to me for the rest of the night. She kept saying, "How could you?" It tasted like a cross between chicken and veal. I thought it would be fishy.
