Modern Chinese medicine Illness
What is Montezuma’s revenge called in China? I got it! It’s terrible. Cramps began at 7 PM Wednesday then I woke from a sound sleep and ran to the bathroom, over and over. At noon I woke with a fever so I took the antibiotics the travel nurse gave me. Shortly after that I finally got some relief. I was afraid of dehydration, so I’ve been drinking a lot of water. Several hours later I ate a small bowl of rice. The irony is that on Friday morning I was scheduled for a sonogram of my gall bladder and I was to fast before hand.
Wednesday I ate lunch and I think the bad food was the watermelon I had for dessert. That’s the first, uncooked fruit that I didn’t bring home and wash. I even wash the outside of the eggs before I crack them. Thursday I had one bowl of rice. Friday morning, after no coffee and no water, I went to the public hospital for the sonogram. I wish I had brought my camera. We went through several steps, and it was easy for me because I had an interpreter from the Foreign Affairs office
My lobby
The lobby of my apartment building. In the afternoon it's full of grandparents and children as well as students. Graduate student apartments along, and I get to go to the VIP Room for Foreigners. They also brought in a doctor who speaks English, when I asked for more diarrhea medicine for future attacks. He gave me an antibiotic plus two other medicines I mix with water to calm down my insides.
We got in line for the sonogram room. There are three exam rooms. We are all sitting in chairs in the hallway wearing blue plastic bags over our shoes, to keep down the germs in the rooms. In the room is the expert in front of the machine (a doctor or technologist) and a young woman taking the dictation that is printed along with the pictures. I climb on the bed on my back and get that jelly stuff that all sonograms use. Afterwards we go back to the doctors’ office. I find out I have gall stones and cysts in my kidney and liver. Those are small and I was probably born with them and not to worry. They are “good tumors.” For the gall stones, I should eat three meals a day, no fried foods, and drink a lot of water. So, I’m fine. I have an official

These men have helped me set up my mirror, fix my electricity, get my milk, etc. book that I bring back each time I go to the hospital. God willing, never again.
You could tell this was a public hospital because of the variety of people there. It’s very large and is considered one of the best in Nanjing, plus it’s near to the university. I was told that people don’t really trust the private hospitals.
I’m still very shaky from the involuntary cleansing, so I came home and watched The Matrix on a DVD. By the way, it’s a great movie. I bought several about Jung’s archetypes, that one, Star Wars, Narnia-the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings.
Later I’m going to write about the antique market, a delicious dinner and the hierarchy of the highway.

How awful
It was probably a sulfa drug you got. That's what they use here but in China it it may be diffferent. I am interested in Chinese med. Glad your tests came out ok. In spite of all it looks like you are having fun. Nothing new here.
