We thought a bit of a female perspective might be a good idea so I took the camera with me for one of my times walking around Wuhan, getting lost, and finding new and interesting places. I did, however, begin my trek on the bus. I started my morning at 9 am by getting on our normal bus, the 586. I hopped off at the wonderful little park with the windmill that was in earlier entries. This left me walking on Minzu DaDao (big road) and is a short walk to one of my favourite haunts, the mall with the Carrefour store in it. I walked along the opposite side of the street as the mall and ran into our favourite bakery chain, Semeur De Pain. There are some delicious bread, cakes, and other treats there. Today I passed it as I was planning to be out for some time and wouldn’t want to carry anything around for too long or to ruin it in the hot sun.
Once I arrived at the mall I took advantage of the low traffic and snapped off a shot of the buildings around the round-a-bout. I then decided to take a left turn and
see where that would take me. The first place I found to visit was this store/mall. Once inside I realized that it was a higher end store, but as always with the high-end stores, only the items on the outside perimeter or walled off from the rest are expensive. Stores here always seem to have a “bazaar” area in the middle of each floor and the cheaper items can be found in there. I hit ever floor but didn’t see anything that intrigued me so on I went. There were some small shops along the way but most were cell phone sales and the rest didn’t look promising. I did see some newspaper stands but could find no newspapers in English. I finally realized that I was in an auto repair area and knew it could be some time before I found a place for something other then repairing anything with an engine so I snapped off a shot of the gorgeous hotel across the street. The picture isn’t that great but it will do for now. During my back-tracking I saw something that seemed quick weird and in my confusion for got to get a picture. There was a
bus parked beside the road with big signs on it and a mass of people filling out forms of some kind. I regret not trying to find someone to ask what was going on. I have since found out there are blood drives going on to help the people injured in the earthquake. In hindsight, I realized this was one of those buses. I reached Carrefour with nothing further of interest happening. I considered mall food which is very good here but instead decided to cross the street and head towards Guanshan Da Dao (the road we live on). I was happy I did almost as soon I finished with the crossing. There was a row of street food and the first one was selling the flat bread (it’s more like a sandwich) that I love. A smile, some pointing, and 2 kwai later I was on my way with my lunch in hand. I had forgotten to get a picture of the person selling the bread so when I looked down a small street and saw someone selling some I took a quick pic even though I couldn’t tell how it came out. I moved on. I knew I
reached Guanshan when the KTV sign came into view. KTVs are karaoke bars and they are all over here but I have always loved the sign for this particular one. Don’t you just love the three girls? I hung a right to head in the direction of home. There is so much to see down this street and I didn’t want to take too many pictures as I’m not totally sure what Steve has gotten in the past. Along the way I ran into a florist and made note of it for future use. I walked along for a ways just taking everything in and found this hotel along the way. I had to get a shot of the foo dog for my Mom. I even made it to the road you turn on to go to Mr. Mai’s which is a coffee and language bar and then I decided I had walked far enough for the day and jumped in a cab. I told him where I wanted to go but I could tell he didn’t know which way so a lot of pointing the way, him pointing to confirm, and me using my new word for “correct” but
I got back to Vanke and went to my office for my first day of my new course. After Steve got home we went to the mall with Carrefour in it and I bought this beautiful skirt I had seen on a different day. Thus ending my day of adventuring and now I’ll give the reins back to Steve for the next entry.
