Hi all and wish you all had the turkey dinner that I didn't...lol... I had Peking Duck...LOL..
So, Leaving Hanoi and heading to China is the next big adventure that I have to endeavor... I Arranged a trip fron the hotel in Hanoi for $10us which was to take me to the Vietemese and Chinese Border of Dong ding....They came at 9am to pick me up at the hotel... we then kept stopping at different place to pick up more people...I was sitting in the back seat that normally holds 4 people and at one point and they wanted to put more people in the backseat with me ...I don't think so... If they all want to cramp each other let them but I wasn't going to let them put another person in that back seat again.... We all had words but I won the war...lol...And also considering that the other people were paying only 50,000d or $3.25us for the same trip.... Tourists price and a bad hotel.... But Im on my way... I got to the Border around noon and took the 1km walk across the Friendship Gate or small bridge to the Chinese Border... I had to walk across
instead of just taking a Moto... It was a bit symbalic to me... Once I pass the Immigration check I got a Taxi to the town of Pingxiang... The cost was 50 yuan or about $7us... When I got there I went to a bank to get some Chinese money or Yuan... But the bank wouldn't take any travelers cheques... LOL.... What the Hell... They told me to use the ATM outside their bank and when I did try the language was in Chinese... I wasn't going to use a atm that I didn't understand... So I headed of towards the bus depot... I was a bit lost but found a couple that didn't speak english but understood that I wanted the bus... They were nice to walk me to the buse depot and made sure that I got my ticket to Nanning... I then hopped on the nice Bus for the 3hr journey... The cost to nanning was 50yuan... Once in Nanning I got off the bus and saw a KFC... I know, but I had to have some type of food that I knew and I was hungry...LOL. After the KFC I got on a public bus and
headed toward the center of town and I couldn't believe how modern this city was... The had big lights all over the place and McDonalds and KFC all over tooo... There was even a Wal-Mart...LOL... On the bus no one spoke any english until this nice Chinese girl got on and helped me to ask the bus driver where I should get off... When I got off the bus near the central train station I found a hotel for 68Y or about $9us... And then asked the hotel clerk about how to get some money out of the ATM to hold me over until the morning... Well I found out that I was just using the ATM wrong and that it was my own error...LOL... I then went to take a look around... I found out that no one here spoke any english at all... And I was thinking to myself how is China going to host the Olympics...( Once in Beijing I found out that they do speak English)... I had a good walk around and was very WoW the whole time... This was not what I expected...
I woke up the next Morning and went to the bank
where again they didn't speak any english but managed to cashsome travelers cheques.. And then went for a look around...Well walking up the street in front of a McDonalds was a guy practicing Medicine on sone guy... This guy had what look like part of his intestine hang out of him...LOL... and there was a crowd of people watching it too... I was taking pictures until the doctor told me to stop.... But this was not a trick what so ever... The thing hanging out of him was even pulsating...LOL.. Come eat at McDonalds and watch a operation...LOL... I then went to find a air ticket to Beijing for the next day and found a oneway for 700Y or $100us... I just want to spend Xmas in Beijing... Later in the night I went too see a concert next to a mall where there was a bunch of young people and a Chinese rock band playing some western music... They played a song from Green Day and boy the screwed that right up but the rest of the songs where OK... I then went to a park where there was different types of dancing and music... I spent about 2
Wal-mart has taken over China
I wonder how much they pay their workers here... or 3 hours there and it was so much fun... Its funny because the Chinese people look at you all the time... And then when you catch there eyes they just look away... Also it was very hard to find an internet net place to e-mail and down load Pics for this Blog...
The next morning I got out of the hotel and headed to the airport by taking an airport express bus... On the way to the airport I saw a farmer with a cow plowing the field and considering that I had some time until my plane left I dumped my bag at the airport luggage place and took awalk back to the field and took some pic's... Its amazing that there were so many billboards around the farmers field... After trying to talk tto him and trying my hand at plowing I went to catch my plane... On the plane everyone looked at me... LOL... When the plane was taxiing on the runway out my window were about 20 Chinese fighter Jets and a bunch of bunkers... I guess that the airport was a base for the Airforce... Well Nanning was a step ahead from what I have seen in the other countries that I have been to... Alot of western fastfood joints and some nice modern buildings and abunch of western clothing shops... So the question is where is the traditional chinese cites that I want to see???
Hope you all had a great Xmas and will have a good New year... Im in Beijing right now and Freezing my ASS off... I get the Beijing blog out in a few days with some great PIC's... Take Care... Michael
