Dinner at the new house.
Lisa,Paris, me and John.
at dinner. here we had a bottle of brandy that was over $1000nz a bottle, sometimes I think were being a little spoilt. Life continues as normal in china . . .
After being a little sick I’m now all better again.
Last week one morning before work I went to the Baomo Gardens, which were pretty cool and had a bunch of old things, but most exciting was the fish. So many many fish. It was so much of a garden as it was lots of nice buildings and bridges but still very cool.
Every night quite late, a truck comes and drops a big load of rocks and then every morning (for the last 2 weeks) a digger loads the rocks back onto the truck and the truck drives away. It’s very amusing but still I wish they wouldn’t do it so late and so early. It is one of the many things we don’t understand here. Like yesterday across the road from the school was a small branch on the road which someone had surrounded with road cones, I’m sure it would have been more effort to put the cones there than it would be to move the branch. But still maybe there was a reason.
The Circus;
On the way there we got picked up by one
of Kate’s friend’s drivers, it was her friends last day in china before going to study in England so she came with us.
Was pretty normal except the way the used animals seemed very cruel. They had bears dressed as little girls that were forced to do boxing with each other. And there were dancing bears and bears riding bicycles and motorbikes (quite impressive) and the even had a boxing kangaroo. It was strange when they brought out a cage of flamingos showed them for a while and then wheeled it away again. But still cool. There were even hippos and pelicans.
After it was over we were waiting out side there was a few people having some issues starting a motorbike and a little buggy, we went over to help and it turned out to be the Columbian and Russian performers who spoke almost no English but they were very glad to have our help. It felt like quite an odd situation pushing round a little Columbian man in his little go-kart, with all the Chinese staring at us. The police thought it was strange too and it was much too difficult to explain. We had to leave the
performers stranded when another driver in a super bright kindergarten bus picked us up.
For the next few days nothing too exciting happened except my having abit of a cold.
On our day off, John the big boss offered to take us to another old town fairly close by. So we met him nice and early in the morning (11). He thought it would be best if we got some brunch first so we stopped at the districts biggest buffet. It was huge, it even needed a map and I still got lost a couple of times. It was also very cheap though we weren’t allowed to pay, it was only $20nz for all you can eat with heaps of restaurants all from different countries, which meant we got get heaps of much missed western food, like pastas, and pizza. And an all-you-can-drink bar, but it was a little too early for much more than champagne. At the buffet I had t-bone steaks, pasta, ceaser salad, raw oysters, lamb (which john made us dip in our Japanese ice cream (apparently the normal way)) I’m definitely keen to go back there and maybe spend the day.
From there we
drove to the ferry to take us to the university island where the old town was. On the way we passed a few of johns properties and he let us take a look around. Very impressive.
The ferry was super super cheap only about 5 NZ cents for one person and about $1.2 for a car. The old town was pretty cool but it really had nothing on Lijiang but because it was Cantonese style it was still cool to see. On the way home John asked if we wanted to see his new house so we stopped by there and ended up staying for ages after he wanted to try with us various Belgium beers he had been given. So the international beer party turned into dinner and a team ping-pong game against John and Lisa.
Now we just keep doing everything as usual, and we just got our first pay, yay, so now we go and book our tickets for our trip to Hainan, where we can get some real warmth and beaches.

Hi, I enjoy reading your blog, wish i had such a friend like Paris here to share my China experience. Maybe I live somewhere near you in Panyu/Shiqiao, according to pictures. But I am not that familiar with this area yet, afraid to get lost. Keep posting so I have something to read on the lunch break :)
