Beijing
Street Scene We are having a fantastic time, and have already fallen into just about every trap we were warned against (but it is all good fun) We started by taking a dodgy taxi from the airport and paid twice as much and got lost!
Finally got to the hostel it is really nice. We have been to the Forbidden City, eaten at a street cafe, been shown around by a "student just practicing English!" and had a Tea Ceremony(and of course bought all the teas) We have also been to the great wall(nobody told me there were so many steep steps!) but it was great and of course we have walked and walked and walked all over Beijing. We have booked our train to Chengdu(30 hours) and our accommodation for the next stretch. I can see what you meant about the organized tours and the government markets.....to be avoided at all costs
WE were on a tour to see the great wall and also saw the Ming Tombs(that was okay) but wait there's more....2 jade factories, 1 pearl factory, 1 clothing shop and another tea ceremony and you cannot say no. Some girls tried it on our bus and another tour
Beijing
Tea Ceremony guide was called in to give us a very big pep talk!! We have already met interesting people with stories to tell as well.
